    Polypterus?

I have kept a delhezi, a senegal, and an ornate together all about the same size, and they never had any trouble getting along with each other or the other fish. Just as long as they cant fit each other in their mouth i think multiple bichirs are okay together.

    Senegal Bichir

Mines not much of a gravel mover (not like my cichlids) so i have never seen him move any of my rocks. They are really hardy I rescued mine from a sick tank at petco, and he was completely unaffected by the poor conditions of the tank. Mine eats any type of sinking food i put in the tank, as...

    Senegal Bichir

I have 1 in my 3 foot tank and its getting a little tight... i would recommend either a 55 or a 75, although it is possible to keep them in slightly smaller tanks. I give my bichir plenty of caves to roam in, but he really loves floating plants like water sprite. Sand is the recommended...

S Shaped Spine On A Honey Gourami

i bought a red honey gourami 3 weeks ago, and i have it in a ten gallon with other small fish, it was fine for the first week, when i came back from college 2 weeks later (my sister feeds the fish while im gone), the honey way resting on the gravel in the front and i noticed it had problems...

Black Paradise Fish - Macropodis Concolor

my friend kept one in a betta type set up, but his only mistake was keeping it with a corydoras as well, and did not do water changes as often as he should. It was moved into a larger tank with tetras, and supposedly it killed everything in the tank. IMO it was the water quality, but my friend...

    Pygmy Gourmais

Pygmy gouramis are very very small, i keep 3 with a pair of honey gouramis and they get along fine. As to if they eat snails, im not sure. i keep malasian trumpet snails in my tank and i have never seen the gouramis eating them, but then again i have a lot of substrate and i barely ever see my...

    Need Advice

thanks for the tips, i have recommended the site and he says he reads some of the articles, and 'does his research', me and my bf have also given him a fish book, but he left it at my bfs house and was disinterested :/, i have never kept a pike or a festivum, let alone together. What's the...

    Need Advice

One of my close friends saw my fish tank and decided that he wanted to start keeping tropical fish, and after a few months of trying to advise him what he should get, he decided to set up a 29 gallon tank and after cycling it with goldfish (not my idea) he bought a short bodied green terror and...

    Asian Upside-Down Catfish

thanks for the help, they are not in a community tank, and i am prepared to separate them when it comes time. for now though they seem to be doing okay and steer clear of each-other, there has not been much fighting except the first day

    Asian Upside-Down Catfish

mine appear to be Mystus leucophasis, from the descriptions that i have read, right now they are about 3 or 4 inches each, but they seem to have staked out their own territories in the tank each in their own cave, are they normally territorial at this size? they also attacked each other during...

    Asian Upside-Down Catfish

I recently bought three asian upside down catfish from my lfs, the woman who sold them to me told me that the were a type of synodontis, and seemed to know what she was talking about, but when i went home and did some research i learned that they are in fact closely related to but not...

How Do I Start The Cycle?

Has anyone recommended ammo-lock yet? it detoxifies ammonia instead of removing it, thus letting the tank cycle without causing damage to the fish in the tank. The ammonia levels can still be read during tests but it minimized the possibility of fish death/damage. Of course this is along with...

Aquascaping: How To Plant On Rocks And Secure Them

oh well. i'll just put the anubias that i had in there back, i guess the fern will look nice with my tarantula  on second thought... think my java fern that's attached to a rock would work well, and it has more leaves for the shrimp to explore :D

Im not ignorant about water quality, I do water tests, and use water from an established filtered tank, i just do not want to stress my betta out by creating a current in his tiny little tank :) i have no ammonia or nitrites as stated before, i see no other reason for a filter than to grow...

I keep my betta with shrimp, and my friend keeps hers with a frog, she says that the frog ignores the betta and vice versa, i would only warn you that you need to get the dwarf variety, dont get anything that says clawed frog, they get giant and eat your fish, but look the same as the dwarf...

I agree with everyone above, weekly tests on an established tank are excessive and unnecessary after you have a good feel for keeping fish tanks, unless of course something is iffy
