I am thinking of putting a bamboo shrimp in with my medium sized green terror... how bad of an idea is this?

I only ask because my green terror is a bit of a wimp... he won't eat live guppies, and refused a dead ghost shrimp that i offered him... someone recommended the bamboo shrimp to me because it has a harder outer shell than most freshwater shrimp and is unusually large...

I think that when he gets older, that the shrimp will just be a snack! Their agression seems to kick in at 5"+ from what I have read.

GT's are predatory and shrimp and other shelled beasties are a big part of a Cichlids diet in the wild.

As soon as he gets his 'back bone' he will shred it. (and the guppys)

Those bamboo shrimp too tasty to me haha. I think the GT would eat it.

oh well i think ill just wait on the bamboo shrimp until i set up my small non aggressive tank this summer. they are so cool looking i really want to get one, but i think waiting is the right thing to do.

:good: good decision :)

Up until today I have had two Amano shrimp living peacefully with my 3-4" GT, from when she was under an inch big. She even defended them against the Geo. Brasil. I had. She has NEVER gone for them, though I know she will when she gets bigger. They have been moved today into my betta's tank to protect them from my GT and Oscar  I do NOT want any of my fish eating any of my other fish

Definitely get some shrimps for a seperate tank when you can, as they are brilliant little creatures to watch

i have cherries with my betta :D shrimp are so helpful and fun to watch  so i was looking for some to possibly put with my little terror, but its better to be safe and put it with more peaceful fish :good:

Yeah definitely  I love my not-so little shrimps, and they have got to work 'cleaning' my betta's tank for him  I'd be so gutted and feel so guilty if my GT or Oscar ate them (and of course they will when their mouths are big enough)

Suprised that the Betta is not eating the Cherrys, considering they are predatory and feed mostly on insects!

Yeah, I think cherries stay quite small don't they. Some bettas may not touch them though, especially if fed regularly.

My Amanos are the same length as Sherbet, including his tail  So he has NO chance of eating them. In fact, they'd beat him up, they're pretty tough guys

my fish bothered the ghost shrimp when i first put them it, but doesnt bother the cherries, they have been in the tank for about 2 weeks now and there are no casualties yet i have a bunch of java moss for them to hide in and clean, they seem to be doing great with the my betta, but my bfs betta killed his on the first night, i think it all depends on the temperament of the fish (his fish even attacks his snails)
