by standard terms you are overstocked, but you don't have any overly aggressive fish, and with adequate filtration i think it could work. If a pair forms, that is most likely where you will run into problems. But like it's said over and over, cichlids are very hit and miss. Have a hospital...

So i just picked up a new 125g 6foot tank, and need some suggestions on some type of catfish to put in. It will be a CA/SA cichlid tank, with a lot of filtration. Ideally was looking for a small group of 3-4 medium sized catfish. But all suggestions welcome.

you heard t-bars are really nasty? I read they are definitely less aggressive than your typical convict pair, which IMO would do fine in that tank. I dont think any texas,JD, or vieja is in serious threat of a breeding pair of convicts in a 6ft tank. especially after the catfish eat the eggs...

How about a RedHead Vieja, (Vieja synspila), or a TwoBand Vieja, (Vieja bifasciata). Both are very nice looking fish, and most info i am seeing on them describe them as aggressive but may be compatible in community CA/SA tanks.

Thanks for the suggestions, i will definitely look into those catfish. I have never had one, think they would be nice. As for the geo's, do you think they could possibly be bullied by the cichlids?

as of now, no it will never work in that tank, nor with your current setup. but in a 6x2x2 i think it could work. Although it Always depends on the individual fish, so, many times it is trial and error, but people have had much worse in a 6x2x2 with success. Although bala's like to be in...

I think it could work, but jb is right ebjd's seem to be pretty sensitive fish. Although some green terror's really aren't too bad... and they don't usually become aggressive until around 5/6". So if you do try this, just make sure you keep a close eye on them.
