I don't know their normal lifespan.  I know mine have made it through 2 tank moves (you know, the little first tank with some nice fish that you massively overstock cos you don't know what youre doing, to the bigger tank then to the 'yeah I really like this, lets have a tank as the centerpiece...

I've got a nice shoal of pentazonas, they have lived with angels and my opaline gourami for years with no issues.  I think that they are supposed to be less nippy than tiger barbs and keep any nipping within the shoal.  That fits with my experience too :)

I once had a betta who really didn't like being in with any other fish, he just wasn't himself and his fins began to go tatty even when in with just a few neons. Back in a tank on his own he came back to his former glory. Maybe Calisto is just stressed by his tankmates?

Hi folks, Sorry if this sounds like a bit of a silly question, I've just been thinking about how fish grow. I'm sure that we have all come across some myths mixed with facts about how fish grow in an aquarium - fish grow to the size of your aquarium, fish grow better in the dark, hormones...

I would definitely recommend assasin snails, they will soon find the snails who hide away until you tempt them out with food. I had a bit of an issue with pest snails (not MTS though), dropped a few assassins in and they seemed to clean up nicely. Nice things to look at too :)
