Are All Corydoras From South America?

I keep a shoal of Sidthimunkis with my Corys, they are very active and i think very good looking fish to boot. Highly recommended! Oh and they do a good job of keeping the snails at bay as well.

Not Quite Sure What These Guys Are...

Took and hour or so of sitting and waiting for these guys to stay put long enough for me to grab a picture. Here's a better one: Picture # 3 And I have been scouring through my books and the web, seems there's a few candidates, i'll keep checking though.

Not Quite Sure What These Guys Are...

Hey guys long time no see. I recently bought a group of Corys that were labeled as "Wild Caught Trillineatus". At first glance they just seemed to be a bit pale from the lighting and the trip to the LFS. I picked them up and brought them home and introduced them to my other group. However after...

    My Tank Sump Plans.

LOL yeah sorry, typing while watching TV and a fish tank is a bad combination!

    My Tank Sump Plans.

That's called vallisneria spiralis. A pretty hardy fairly fast growing plant. The sump i am using is actually setup with baffles to support a substrate bed and the inlet is positioned to make sure that an excessive amount of current stirs up and moves away the substrate. I would not run a...

    Chrs's Tank Journal

I had flashbacks of my own old 20 tall when i saw your pictures. My first tank was the same and oddly enough it had 4 Corydoras Paleatus in it just like yours. THough instead of a Betta I had Platys.

    My Tank Sump Plans.

i'm running a refugium/sump on my tank but i always intended too. For the CO2 I am stickign with dosing Flourish Excel at the moment as I am unsure what effect the cascading water (my tank has a built in overflow) will have on any possible CO2 injection. In my sump I am using a nice sized mass...

    Corydoras And Y. Sidthimunkis

I was reading Practical Fishkeeping and they had an article on Dwarf Chain Loaches (Y. Sidthimunki) and noted that they are not recommended to be kept with Corydoras Catfish. Since I have actually had these neat little loaches with my various Corydoras for a while now, I thought i'd share my...

    Feeding Schedule?

I feed twice a day, once right when the lights go on, and again right before the lights go off. Usually Hikari Sinking wafers and whatever Tetra Pellets they can steal from the neons and sidthimunkis. They fast on fridays and mondays, and saturday everyone gets a treat of some bloodworms. Giving...

    New Home For My Corys

Just added more pictures to my FLickr. Seems the Paleatus are making themselves at home laying eggs all over the tank! Water is still a bit cloudy, but parameters are all coming down to acceptable levels. Almost time for the Trillineatus to migrate over and meet their Paleatus and Adolfoi friends.

    New Home For My Corys

Well people have different reasons and different ways to go about it, but here is why I am doing it: 1: Increased water volume Space is a consideration for me, and I couldn't fit a much wider tank in my house, running a sump underneath gives me an extra 15 gallons or so of water which helps...

    New Home For My Corys

Yeah both my buddies run sumps as well (one guy has a reef setup though) and i kind of got keen to the idea. Plus the big sump I am using kind of fell in my lap so I couldn't resist. Tank is still cycling, but once things settle down I will take some new pictures that will hopefully be way more...

    New Home For My Corys

Hey all, been a while since I last posted anything. Well I just spent the weekend with a buddy getting all the bits together and setting up my new tank for my Corydoras. I am going from two tanks (18g Tall, and 24g Nano Reef Cube) to one tank. Setup now is: 60g Visio Glass Aquarium with...

    Colony Tank?

Well what i've been doing is taking the eggs and popping them into a net breeder in the same tank as the parents. I feed them with some Hikari "First Bites" (I mix it up in a bottle with tank water first since it likes to just float on the surface otherwise) and a piece of broken Hikari "Sinking...

How Much Do You Pay For Corys?

Well at my LFS that i frequent, i payed $2.99 each for my Paleatus, and $12.99 each for my Duplicareus. Now he has a few more unusual ones in the tanks (He used to keep some corys himself) like Polysticulus, Guapore, Seussi, and a few others all near $30 each. I'm thinking right now i'll just...

    Colony Tank?

Well you could establish a colony with any of the Corys really. I'm planning to do so with my Duplicareus. I've only got 4 now (spawning at the moment, so maybe more?) and was planning to pick up about a half dozen more. Thinking to put them all in a 60g tank and let them thrive and see how many...

    Flourite Substrate Too Sharp?

I had the same concern myself and ended up using Flourite Black Sand instead. One of the guys I've met online has had Corys for some time now and did experience some barbel wear with normal flourite.

    Catching The Corydoras Bug

Just a little update, the Duplicareus appear to be spawning. I've moved the Paleatus to the other tank now to prevent any excess egg eating/confusion (as they are spawning as well) and with any luck we'll see if I can have a few more of these guys!

    Ive Got Corys!

Congratulations! My first Corys were a group of 4 Paleatus as well. I know have 6 Paleatus (they spawned and two fry survived) and 3 Duplicareus. Such entertaining little guys to watch.

    Cory Feeding,what's Best?

LIke alot of people, my staple food is Hikari "Sinking Wafers" which the little guys love. Supplemented by frozen blood worms once a week, and whatever Tetracolor Flakes make it past the Platys. I will also occasionally toss in a Hikari "Algae Wafer" mostly for my Oto's but the Corys of course...

    Catching The Corydoras Bug

Went to my LFS yesterday and got some amazon swords for eveyrone to hide under (the rock cave I had was way to small to fit all 10 Corys). I believe you about the Paleatus eating the eggs, i've seen them pick them off the glass a few times but as a whole i've seen the eggs sit on the glass for...

    My Pygmy Cories

Thanks for sharing! Nice little school you go there! I wanted some myself but noen of the LFS's have them. So you can say i'm a bit jealous!

    Albino Cory Colour Difference

I'm with inchworm on that one. In my brief but eventful experience, colors will fade from poor health or poor diet (as I discovered from my Sunset Platys in dramatic effect). Though with Albino's i've also seen some minute color variation but only in how pink they are in certain points. Sorry I...

    Catching The Corydoras Bug

pippoodle: Wow that's alot of Corys you got there! I see myself kind of leaning that way over the course of the next year as well haha. I plan on buying the bigger tank where I will migrate the guys I have now and keep my 18 up and running for whatever else comes my way! Not too many shops here...

    Catching The Corydoras Bug

When i first got back into Fishkeeping I had no clue what a Corydoras was. I just bought a nice tall 18 Gallon tank to sit on my cabinet next to my desk at home and bought the equipment and whatnot and initially cycled the tank with a pair of Sunset Platys. Then I started to think what to get...

    Need Help Identifying Catfish

Thanks for the advice, I'm going to stop by the LFS tomorrow to buy some water and will ask the owner. Regardless of what the guy is he is quite perky and holds his own with his Cichlid roomates!

    Cheeky Corries

My Paleatus have spawned several times (can't seem to get the to stop! not that I mind really) and the only time so far that I have gotten fry to pop and survive was with the eggs I didn't even notice. So lately I have just been letting the eggs stay on the glass, plants, filer, rocks, etc and...
