    Saving The Day

I don't know much about Walmart, as I'm from the UK.. but from what I've heard, they're not that unsimilar to Petsmart/Pet's at Home/whatever. Anyways, I stumbled across this on YouTube and thought I'd share a nice rescue story: Part 1 Video - Saving the Betta's - Part 1 Part 2 Video - Saving...

    Cat With A Betta

Cats and fish tanks generally do not mix, they either don't stay in the bloody tank, or drown. ( sorry I had to say it -_- ) At first I thought of the Otocinclus Catfish, but it's recommended to be atleast 10 gallons. However, I've read on several sites that the Dwarf Corydoras catfish...

    Big Spike In Water Params.

I've just inspected my tank and noticed a fish had got itself stuck in a plant and unfortunately died. It could not have been there for more than an hour or so, as the tank is checked regularly. However, a big spike in my water params has developed, and I'm wondering if this is normal for such...

    Fish Tank Power

As for the UPS question, you can buy them.. but they're not cheap if you want a good one. www(dot)novatech(dot)com and www(dot)misco(dot)co(dot)uk are a good place to start if you want to check out the prices -_- Expect to pay £250 upwards for a good decent one.

Polystyrene Under A Tank- Update Please Advise

I can't say I've seen any tanks sitting on polystyrene either. And like I said, I've never had polystyrene or anything under the actual tank - I just make sure the floor that it's standing on is as flat as it can be. The stands are designed to support and bare the weight of the full tank, but if...

Polystyrene Under A Tank- Update Please Advise

The idea of having polystyrene under the tank is for the tank to settle on if the stand is uneven or not level. If this is the case, it can cause stress on the glass that can be invisible until it's too late (i.e. all over your floor). Some aquarium manufactures like Juwel and AquaOne say in the...

    Tank Buddies?

That tank looks a fairly decent size for him, but personally I wouldn't add more than three or four small tankmates to go with him due to the size of the tank. Tankmates could include the slower neon or cardinals tetras, zebra danios, platies, swords and mollies. However, your betta will most...

    Water Condition

Heya, As a few of you may know, I've swapped my tank over today. The water was crystal clear this morning, but now it looks as if there's 'smoke' in the water. I put the fish in a few hour ago, and it's just appeared. Could this just be dust residue off of the sand, where they've been digging...

    New Tank

Hiya, I've just upgraded from my Rekord 120 (120l) to my new AquaStyle 980 (220l). The biggest change I have made is going from gravel to sand. I was very sceptical at first, and had several visions in my mind of it all going wrong. But now I wonder why I was so worried, it's easier to work...

    Algae Eaters And New Tank

Hi I have a Hong Kong Sucker / Borneo Butterfly who lives (literally) attached to the glass of my aquarium. However, he'll be moving to my new tank shortly, and was wondering what he'll do for food, as the new tank is spotlessly clean. He refuses to detatch himself from the glass, and won't...

    Sand With Air Stones?

Heya, This will probably sound dumb, but is it ok to use air stones with a sand substrate? My way of thinking tells me that the bubles will simply push all the sand up and will uncover itself and start floating around. Or will the sand be heavy enough to keep it down? But even if this is the...

    Real Plants

Fake plants are alright, but live plants to help with the chemical balance of your water. I must say I've never had a problem with plants from my LFS, except the...

    Jewel Built-in Filter Vs Other

I'll second the response above. I have a Rekord 120 at the moment (upgrading next week to a Aqualife 980). The internal filter clogs up easily, and as said, is not the easiest to clean, as in most tanks, the entire hood has to be lifted to get the media out. Also (atleast on mine) the top of...

    Feeding Fish Vegetables

I'm not sure about using certain types of lettuce, but I've been told you should rinse it, soak it in boiling water for about 10 seconds, then rinse in cold again. This kills any bacteria etc, and softens the leaf a bit too. Doesn't harm my fish - cucumber is a favorite with my fish, too.

    Suggestions On New Tank!

Sorry to hear about your tank mis-hap, but I'm glad the fish survived! Juwel's and AquaOne are my recommendations - never had a problem with their tanks.. however if yours was one of them.. then I apologise. You may want to check into what caused the tank to crack in the first place, too...

    Under-substrate Heater

Heya, I just found this on eBay.. Rena COR 100w Heating Cable What would be the advantages/disadvantages of using an under-substrate heater compared to a conventional in-tank heater? Apart from the obvious maintenance issue (being under the sand/gravel etc.), I can't think of much.. Maybe...

    Guppys And Bubbles!

I have guppy's and other small fish in one of my tanks with quite a heavy flow of big bubbles. One of the guppy's insists on swimming in to the bubble stream, being carried up to the top of the tank (upside down may I add), then gracefully falling down again to the bottom. He then repeats this...

    Water Changes?

I've done it.. haven't experienced any problems whatsoever.. you're probably not supposed to though because of what might be in the heating system etc (like limescale in the pipes, etc.) Of course, I don't just dump an entire bucket of hot water in the tank, I mix a very small part per bucket...

Suggestions For Boosting Fish Health And Immunity?

A good varied diet (flakes, dried, frozen, live, and even cucumber and lettuce), regular water and filter maintenance and a nice habitat all help towards having healthy, happy fish! As for any of these "additives" that are around.. I'm not totally sure that these really work.. but...

    Live Plants Dp

Where's the enthusiasm? You're supposed to care and do research for your tank! Live plants help with controlling chemical balances and can also help reduce algae levels in the water, and are a good addition to any tank.

    Bubbles

Personally, I have fast, bigger bubbles on one side of the tank, and finer bubbles on the other. What I also use, are air-valves.. little taps that you connect between your airstone and the air feed pipe.. you can then adjust the flow with a simple twist. See this page for a picture ;)

    Tropical Fish In Cold Water

My tank is 80 UK Gallons, and you're right, the more water there is, the harder it is to change the temperature. The orfe's are still young, so they're not too big yet. :shifty: I already have a home lined up for them when they do get on the large side :good: , and I knew this from the day I...
