Thanks for the advice Laura. I'll get some melafix tonight from my LFS. Water quality is slightly on the poor side at the moment but nothing horrific at all. I'm going to keep up with daily water changes and see what happens. Looks like I'm off to get a new pleco this weekend.

Well I was going to pick some up after work today however poor pleco died overnight :-( I'm going to keep up with some big water changes now this week. No other fishing are showing signs but want to make sure. Would it harm to medicate the tank anyway?

Big ole water change done tonight. Plec not moving much but he does seem *slightly* better than this morning. What meds can I use to help him?

Hi Wilder, He does rub against the stone substrate at the minute instead of just settling down when he comes to a stop.... I'll do some research on columnaris....what are his chances? Is there anything more I can do for him or just seem if he pulls through?

UPDATE: His tail has started to rot away now and I can see specs of red through his scales round the tail area. He still seems to be moving about ok and breathe doesnt seem quite as laboured but I do think he's only here for a couple of days :(

Indeed, yet some people get away with things. I know someone who has a 100L tank with danios, cardinals, 3 full grown gourami and a MASSIVE plec. Overstocked by anyones estimations....he barely cleans it, never cycled and he doesn get ANY issues, no ich, no deaths...just aint fair ;)

Ok. I've added the peas so we'll see how things go. Typically I have now noticed the very start of ich on my reg plattys so have got my ich treatment in pronto. Hope this isnt the start of something more serious :(

Not skinny at all in all honesty. Looks very healthy and he's very active and first to the food as usual :D Will do that Wilder and let you know what goes on. Thanks!!! You should get a medal for the amount of people you help!

They live mainly off flake food but do eat other stuff I put in there. They go for the plecs algae wafers and corgette/cucumber that I put in as well. theres no obvious bloating in the tummy area, it looks completely healthy apart from the poo.

Hi all, I have two 3 spot Gourami and one of them has developed white string poo. It was fine yesterday. Tank stats are all in normal parameters and no sign of red anus on the fish. I assume this could be the start of internal parasites. what do I need to do to treat this? Ta Chris

I'll second that. Never managed succesfully to keep guppies yet. No problems with anything else in general though apart from a slight issue with Platys recently that Wilder helped me with ;)

Hey Wilder, Poo all looks fine and none of the fish look bloated. sorry its not much to go on but I honestly cant see anything wrong. all the fish are active as usual (well part from Mr Plec who is in his usual hiding spot) Could it just be one of those things? Cheers chris

The platys were about 3 months old (i.e. 3 months from when I put them in the tank). I've seen a bit of agression from the congo tetra but didnt expect anything like this! :(

I have 6 in a 200L tank along with 2 blu gourami, 5 mickey mouse platys, common plec, 2 hoplo catfish and 3 dwarf honey gouramis.

Hi all, I have currently got some guppies in my tank and tonight one has been extensively fin nipped by my congo tetra. Is this normal as I have not seen them do this before? I have some blue gourami in there as well and would expect this from them, but not the tetra. Cheers chris

your thinking the gourami then? the gourami at the moment are not massive, very new themselves so only about an inch to inch and a half long.

The water stats are fine and so are the rest of the fish....I'm thinking you could be right about it being the cardinals sensitivity...they were only a couple of weeks old (well I bought them a couple of weeks ago)...

Hmmm Now its happening to a second guppy. All my other fish seem fine so not got a clue whats going on!!!

He was in there with some congo tetra, cardinal tetra, silver mollies and blue gourami. didnt seem him being harrased in all honesty. When I noticed him before he was swimming any way up that he could. sometimes normally, sometimes on his back etc. Chris

Hi all, I added a few gupps to my tank yesterday and they have been fine since. Today however I have noticed that one of them has been at the surface a lot and is now almost gone :( He floats around like he's dead for a bit, then kicks into life again, then the same again. He's doing this...

quick update: Plecs fin looking better and starting to slowly grow back which I am happy about. Also my stats are now: Ph : 7 Ammonium: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 10 Much happier with the stats and they have been stable for 2 days. Lets hope it continues :)
