Hi,

I have found that 3 of my cardinal tetras have dissapeared over the last few days. The tank is pretty busy in terms of ornaments and fake plants etc but I would be able to see if they were in the tank.

They are with:

Dwarf Honey Gourami
Blue Gourami
Silver Molly
Cong Terta
Guppies
Platys

anything on this list that could be attacking and then eating the cardinals?

Cheers

chris

P.s. not posted this in emergencies as I'm not classing it as such yet....

hmm, what size are the molly and blue gourami? IMO IF they have been eaten it would have been by one of these, (most likely the molly)

However in most cases when a small fish such as a neon or cardinal dies in the tank it does seem like finding a needle in a haystack, as they can easily get sucked into filters or picked at by other fish, which is probably the case here

Im voting that they died and were eaten already before you noticed, or they got stuck somewhere you cant see. how long have you had them in the tank. Cardnals can be even more sensitive than neons right from the go, so if they are new fish, that could explain it. Oh also check around your tank, you could have some jumpers.

Best bet is to do a quick water stat check. Nitrites and ammonia would be best. In any event, I would do a large water change as soon as you can in case there is a hidden problem, or if there are dead fish in the tank.

The water stats are fine and so are the rest of the fish....I'm thinking you could be right about it being the cardinals sensitivity...they were only a couple of weeks old (well I bought them a couple of weeks ago)...

no way was it the molly, dont forget cardinal tetras are quite a bit bigger than neons. even if it was the neon i wouldnt of guessed it was the molly

your thinking the gourami then? the gourami at the moment are not massive, very new themselves so only about an inch to inch and a half long.
