Hi all,

On returning from work today I discovered that I had lost two of the above platys. All my water levels are fine and the fish had been healthy and active up until this morning when I last checked on them. One of the platys was upside down on the bottom of the tank and the other had been ripped to shreds so that the only remaining visible sign was its ribs/spine (or the fish equivalent, not up on my fish physiology).

In the tank with them are:

6 congo tetra
4 cardinal tetra
5 guppies
2 blue gourami
2 hoplo catfish
1 common plec.

None of the fish in the tank have shown any signs illness be it whitespot, fin rot, lack of weight or bent spines etc.

Any ideas what could have happened?

Cheers

Chris

How old were they.
Seen any aggression in the tank.

The platys were about 3 months old (i.e. 3 months from when I put them in the tank).

I've seen a bit of agression from the congo tetra but didnt expect anything like this! :(

To be honest its hard to say with no symtoms to go on.
Do any of the fish produce long stringy white poo.
Any of the two dead look bloated.

Hey Wilder,

Poo all looks fine and none of the fish look bloated.

sorry its not much to go on but I honestly cant see anything wrong. all the fish are active as usual (well part from Mr Plec who is in his usual hiding spot)

Could it just be one of those things?

Cheers

chris

Sadly yes.
All you can do is keep an eye on the others.
Might be best to do a water change with losing two fish.

That should be fine.
Good luck.

Wish I could of helped more, but not enough to go on.
