I do weekly gravel cleans, which in turn removes about 20% of the water. I don't clean the glass, as no matter what i put in my tank for the plecos they dont eat it, and they seem to keep it clean enough on there own.

Most of the Larger glass tanks comes with clear, where as most of the smaller tanks come with black. But it makes no difference, just ones got dye the others bleached. You can get lots of different colours too, i've seen brown, red, yellow and silver. (depending on what sort of wood encases it)

any food left in the tank after the one - two minutes just net it out and your be fine.

Get a couple of butterfly Plecos, they grow to about 1.8-2 inchs and they are pretty cool, not to mention the keep the glass clean.

I've not used an under gravel filter, and so i was reading up on what i was missing, it seems i havent been missing much. I have the reno air 100, its completly silent and the bubbles rising out of the air stone through my divers helmet looks pretty cool. Unfortunatly i dont have any loopy...

I've been reading alot that under gravel filters arnt worth the hassle. If you want oxygen in the tank, just buy an airstone/air filter. It looks cool, its cheap and it doesnt block up/or need to be cleaned.

LOL brave... Some filters require you to fill them up with water first before they work. If its an internal filter, just submerge it then fix the top back on, clip it in and plug it in, then switch it on.

dont forget you can always trim them.

Not really, most fake plants are pretty soft now, so they wont scratch or hurt your fish. Your have to clean them once in a while though, because its a static and constant surface, algae will more than happily set up home on them. You might also want to keep an eye on your lighting...

No of course not, but when you add the ammonia, and your filter media develope and the level are all safe and perfect, what would be the point in disrupting this by changing the water and having to get the levels back down? The water is perfect once the cycle is finished, and i still dont...

Poo turns white when it decays, so it could just be old poo. If its fresh it could be due to stress.

Cleaning the sand is going to be a pain in the tail fin! As far as im aware the only cure for water hardness is a chemical treatement, i dont think there are filter pads for it.

Cool thank you, but with a 400 letre tank you would need a filter than can do 4000 letres an hour, or two 2000 filters.. Wouldnt these be really exepsnive and huge?

I've had higher readings than 1ppm when i first got my tank, and none of my fish died. But i guess some are more hardy than others.

Well i have the Fluval 2+ and i know that it filters just under 400 letres an hour. and you have about 57 letres so 400/57 = 7.01, so your tanks filtered around 7 times an hour. Not really one with filters so its best you wait for some one who is, but im pretty sure 7 times an hour with that...

8.2 PH seems high to me. You should read up on the recommended PH level for your types of fish just to be on the safe side. Edit: Different fish like different PH levels

I know they go hand in hand, but you can have an over stocked tank, with more than enough filtration and your fish will be in a great environment. On the over hand you can have poor filtration and an overstocked tank in which case it still boils down to water quality. Hence why i said his water...

Its probably more todo with the waste and quality of the water than it is with the over stocking which would seriously effect the water if not properly filtered.
