Hi, Wanted to know how much to keep the Tank height in order to have planted tank and light requirements.

Thinkin for 2 sizes

48L x 18W x 21H

or

48L x 18W x 24H

Pl. give in your inputs.

Thanks!

pretty much what eva float ur boat, mate. i would prefer teh latter on due to teh hight. but thats just me.
both are good but it also depends what you want to put into ur tank. if your gonna have tall plants get the taller tank. if smaller. get the smaller tank. if both still get the taller tank so as you wont have to trimm ur plants as often. what one looks better?
sky is the limit.
i hope this has helped.
regards, communtiy

P.S. you also might want to take into account how much light the desired plants will need.
if they are plants that require bright lighting then i suggest you get a stronger light.
the higher the tank is, the deeper it is, the more the light rays, beams, whateva have to travel to reach the bottom of your tank.
although i dout 3 or 4 inches in depth will make much of a difference, but hay you neva know.

Thanks for the reply..

I would also like to know...is it compulsory to Polish/Grind the 12mm edge's of the Glass before fixing it into a Tank, or just Raw Cut glass without grinding/polishing would do...will sticking them together with silicon without polishing will be a issue or not.

I would go for the 21" height because higher tanks require stronger lighting for plants. One thing you should remember is that light should be able to reach the bottom of the tank, otherwise the lower leaves might turn yellow and eventually die. My tank's dimensions are 48x14x20 and I'm using 220W power compacts, getting approximately 4WPG and with 24" so I suggest at least 300W on your tank in addition to CO2 injection. With this setup I'm getting good pearling from my riccia and rapid growth from my stem plants--I have to cut them every weekend.

With regards to polishing...I'm not too sure but I think unpolished edges might cut silicone as the tank gets stretched.
