well I find it easier to clean than gravel because you just run the syphon over the crap a few inches above it and it sucks it up. The crap mostly sits on top so u dont have to shuffel around like in gravel the sand also gets picked up by the syphon so thats why you go like 2 inches above the...

Sand ... I just redid my tank with black sand and I love it, looks great planted tank? high enuff lighting ,some co2 and ferts would do the trick.
