I would go with the previous suggestion - keep your current filter running, and then set up a second one. Personally, I have used Eheim External Cannisters for years. Originally purchased a Classic 2217 and 2213 about 7 years ago, and they are still going strong with very little maintenance...

thanks for the reply jgray152 - all the fish seem absolutley fine, so hopefully all will be ok. By doing 25% a week, it will take quite some time for the nitrates to go down - is this ok for the fish?

Bought the Ocean Rock from my LFS, The Goldfish Bowl in Oxford. Paid about £90 for 50kg .... The stuff looks great, and yes, some of the higher pieces are leaning against the glass. I put the largest pieces (about 5 bits) on the bottom, well away from the back glass (about middle of the tank)...

Not sure I understand exactly what you mean? Are you saying that both filters would feed back into the same spray bar, but from opposite ends? Would this not force water back down the return tube towards the other filter?

I have the Juwel Vision 180. I love this tank - because of it's bowed front glass - not very common to see at all. The first thing I dod though, was to remove the internal Juwel filter (easy to do!), and install 2 external Eheim filters - one each side of the tank cabinet. Everything is hidden...
