Thanks for all of the advice. These are great fish and swim to the glass when anyone walks by. One of the reasons why we got them. Haven't seen any sign of aggression yet. Hopefully it stays that way.

Fish turning black a week after putting into tank. Fish seems fine. Water parameters are normal. Top pic is of the one turning colors, the pic on the bottom is what it should look like.

Wondering if anyone has used these filters for their Penguin/Emporer bio-wheel systems? States that the filters do not need to be replaced, only the wastetraps.

I had some what I am guessing to be hair algae in my tank last week. About 1-inch in length and gray-white in color. Stuck on a leaf of a plant(fake). I just removed the plant and scraped it off.

I have the API test kit which I like quite a bit. Other areas of testing were about the same, but the pH was just way off, which caused a little concern. Thanks for the input.

What is better for testing out your tank's water? Strips or a chemical kit? The reason for asking is I am coming up with conflicting pH readings. With strips, I am getting a 6.0-6.4 reading and with a chemical kit, I am getting 7.0-7.2.

Tested my KH @ 17.9 ppm/GH @ 340 ppm. I am in my 3rd week of cycling. Does cycling at all affect hardness? What are my options to fix this, preferably w/o having to add chemicals all the time?
