    Fish Turning Black

Thanks for all of the advice. These are great fish and swim to the glass when anyone walks by. One of the reasons why we got them. Haven't seen any sign of aggression yet. Hopefully it stays that way.

    Fish Turning Black

Fish turning black a week after putting into tank. Fish seems fine. Water parameters are normal. Top pic is of the one turning colors, the pic on the bottom is what it should look like.

    Coralife Light Fixture

I put in a 48" Aqualight kit that contains 2-10k and 2-actinic lights. I have had my tank up and running for a couple of months now, with plants in it for 2.5 weeks. (If at anytime you think you might want plants but just don't feel like messing with it atm, I suggest messing with it right...

    Medium

I used 2 inches Flourite and then about an inch of mixed with existing gravel I already had in the tank.

    Plants Online

That Pet Place This site has some plants, but have never ordered. I have been kind of leary about ordering live plants online.

    Magnavore Bioforever Supercartridge

Wondering if anyone has used these filters for their Penguin/Emporer bio-wheel systems? States that the filters do not need to be replaced, only the wastetraps.

    White Fluffy Stuff On Plants?

I had some what I am guessing to be hair algae in my tank last week. About 1-inch in length and gray-white in color. Stuck on a leaf of a plant(fake). I just removed the plant and scraped it off.

    Water Testing

I have the API test kit which I like quite a bit. Other areas of testing were about the same, but the pH was just way off, which caused a little concern. Thanks for the input.

    Water Testing

What is better for testing out your tank's water? Strips or a chemical kit? The reason for asking is I am coming up with conflicting pH readings. With strips, I am getting a 6.0-6.4 reading and with a chemical kit, I am getting 7.0-7.2.

    Low Kh/high Gh

Thanks. That was what I figured for the most part. Now I just need to research to find those fish.

    70-gallon

Dumb luck I stumbled on just using magnets. Yeah, the color is pretty much an exact match of our couch and curtains which are all in the general vicinity. My wife wanted everything to match. I would like to put some plants in, but unfortunately my current filtration will not allow it, ie...

    Low Kh/high Gh

Tested my KH @ 17.9 ppm/GH @ 340 ppm. I am in my 3rd week of cycling. Does cycling at all affect hardness? What are my options to fix this, preferably w/o having to add chemicals all the time?

    70-gallon

Made the hood bigger for a few reasons 1) Hood has to be big enough so the tank covers can be opened without hitting the lights. 2) Definite full access to anything, such as removing my power filter if needed. 3) Keeps the light from being right next to the water. 4) And finally, better...

    70-gallon

Honestly, I have not decided yet. I contemplated Cichlids, but then I would have to find a home for the Danios. So I have been looking for something compatible with the Danios.

    Hello

3 weeks ago I acquired a tank from a co-worker of my mother. So I built the stand and cover and am now in my 2nd week of cycling. My only "expertise" comes from keeping up with my daughter's Bettas, of which she has 1M/3F. Figured I would join a forum b/c I am sure I will have plenty of...
