I put in a 48" Aqualight kit that contains 2-10k and 2-actinic lights. I have had my tank up and running for a couple of months now, with plants in it for 2.5 weeks. (If at anytime you think you might want plants but just don't feel like messing with it atm, I suggest messing with it right then. What a pain changing that out.)No algae problem, except for 2 spots that pop up every other week. One of my actinic lights went out right after I put up my tank. All of my plants on the left side of my tank (the side
with the actinic) have grown. My Melon Sword has already grown a new leaf since I have had it. The Nanas have also grown about a half inch. When I put those in, some of the leafs were resting on the driftwood, now they no longer touch it. I have something else (individual stocks with tiny leaves-stocks are bunched together???
) that has grown almost 2 inches. I had to turn off the powerhead I was using to polish (when they say rinse the flourite, they mean it
) the water b/c the plant was getting hit by the current. Now the plant is past the outlet on the pump. The right side of my tank without the actinic light looks like crap. Everything is still alive, but havent seen any growth and the plants all have brown spots. I am thinking that the actinic lights help, possibly the spectrum it uses.
Also have it setup where the actinic lights come on first (well the one right now) and then 20 minutes later the 10k lights come on as well. At night, 10k lights go out, and then 20 minutes later the actinic lights go out, with the LEDs coming on.
Setup:
Flourite Substrate 2 inches-mix Flourite/gravel 1 inch on top of that
No CO2
Seachem Flourish 2x week
All plants purchased at same store from same tank.
Lights are 65 watts ea.
