    Tetras

Rummy nose tetras vary as there are several seperate species that the hobby collectively call rummy nose, some are easier than others but none would come under the hardy bracket.

    Marine Breeding

In some places the fish collecting actually helps sustain the reef populations as the local people can earn more money collecting fish for the ornamental trade than they can by dynamite fishing. So it can help protect the reefs from destruction, also a lot of collectors know that if they...

    Beginner Breeder Fish Please

fry that i have bred spawned themselves at about 9 months old i think, but they may spawn younger as i never really made an effort to intentionally breed from them they just did it in a community tank i put them in.

    Angel Fish Help

Ok well i know people will probably slaughter me for this reply but it works for me and ive done it a hundred times so ill have to put up with it. i tend to avoid water changes and vaccuming the gravel in tanks that i breed cichlids in. the reason for this is that i dont like to disturb the...

    Beginner Breeder Fish Please

how about platys they are livebearers so you wont have to worry about fungus on eggs etc and the fry are born big enough to take commercial foods. any thing that can fit them in their mouths will though so no tank mates really not even parent fish. no specially gear needed either.

    Angel Fish Help

it depends what anglefish you are talking about but assuming its a scalare or a closely related hybrid then you shouldnt have too many problems. firstly the tank preferably wants to be deep with stiff upright plants (ive also used slate and bamboo) the eggs will be deposited on these. i use two...

What Fish Are Breeding Of Yours And Selling

i've got loads of cory eggs at the mo peppered, bronze and albiono. Just got rid of the last of my firemouths (meekis) but ive got about 75 kribs (pulcher) that are about at selling size now. Thinking of spawning some shuberts barbs soon as lfs hasnt had them for a while so might be worth it.

    Overstocking

Providing that you are talking about mbuna i would suggest that a good rule of thumb is that you stock around 22 inches sl of fish to one square foot of bottom but remember with this high level of stocking top notch filteration and large regular water changes are critical especially due to the...

    Rock Ph Question

Unless its for a rift vally set up then it can help maintain your hard alkaline water you need. Youd have to test the flagstone though im not sure how it would react.

Adding More Fish? How Long Between Fish Should I Wait?

the time you wait between adding fish is not really that important (unless your adding cichlids etc buts thats not to do with this) what matters is that the tank is fully cycled and matured and that it has the biological capacity to handle the amount of bioload that you are to add.

    Neon Tetras, And What Else?

the bacteria in the water is negligable its the filters that matter it sounds like the fish you brought before may have suffered nitrate shock and died as a result it would be a good idea to test your water in the ten gal

No Wonder My Other 2 Kribs Were Not Getting Along

how large are they? kribs are usually pretty sexually dichromatic and you should be able to spot a male from a female relatively easy once thay start to mature.

    New Aquarium

30 gal isn probably a bit on the small side for any mbuna or haps etc so would stay clear of them but you could go for a pair of shell dwellers from tanganika say neolamprologus signatus or similar at one end of the tank and a rock pile with a pair of julidochromis at the other.

    Need Some Help On Nanos!

The only thing that i would say is that like with any set up small volumes of water are harder to control especially when they are salt water. Also they will over heat really easilly especially if your using high output light for growing on frags, and if you have any coral in their prolonged...

Please dont feel im "passing the blame" i live in a heated house run by fossil fuels and i drive a car too, but this is not to say that i do not attempt to help, my electricity comes from wind turbine generators and i try to walk whenever possible. Advice On Killifish Wanted

Oh yeah i deffinately agree they will last longer in an aquarium than in the wild, but not much in my experience the presence of continuous water levels has not been enough to undo thousands of years of evolution but to be fair im not a hardened killi keeper so i might not be the best example.

    Rate My List!

Im not talking about numbers of fish that are being collected from the wild as this is not the issue the important factor is sustainability, the collection of wild fish has a positive effect on the habbitats that are collected from as it creates an equilibrium whereby sustainable numbers of fish...

    Advice On Killifish Wanted

Basically in a round about way yes, their lifecycle is based on their habbitat where seasonal rain means that there home pools are only temporary, thats why they have to mature to sexual maturity so fast and why their eggs need storing in moist peat for around 3 months before adding water for...

    Advice On Killifish Wanted

Only comment i would add is that if you are looking at fish other than those mentioned and are wanting something very colourful then beware that many of the really bright East African species such as Nothobranchius are seasonal so if as you said you have no intention of breeding them then you...

    Rate My List!

I agree the fish keeping hobby can be of real benefit to the number of fish species that we see go extinct in the wild, just look at madagascar. I think every native species there is endemic to the island and neraly every one is under serious threat. This isnt due to fish keepers but agriculture...

    Favorit Fishy

My favourite always seem to be the outsiders from when i set up a new tank or a bullied fry as when i move them to their own tank their personality seems to grow and they get more tame. At the moment i have a young firemouth in a 18gallon by himself because he was smaller than his siblings and...

What Is The Most Fragile Tropical Fish

I think the thing with guppies is that not enough people are willing to give them the right conditions the same goes with mollies, they need brackish water at least some of the time without it they are bound to be weak.
