    Alright Tank For Discus?

Hey Neal. As stated, your aquarium is not suitable for discus. I'd recommend a minimum of 55 gallons. Mark

    Mating Parakeets

Have nesting material available to the hen (paper towels, hay, etc). She will gather them and take them to the nest box when she's ready. Soft lighting and Barry White music will help. Mark

Please Help Id This Fish...... Sae Or Not?

LOL Irf. I have 8 SAEs in my 125g discus tank. They'd rather eat the fish food than the algae. Yours is a SAE. Mark

Looking For A Calm Medium/large Sized Cichlid

I've found Uaru's and severums to be pretty mellow and I think they'd look good in that big ol' tank. Mark

Have A Look Tell Me Wat Y Think

Nice job. I'd also like to see the specs. The only thing I would do different would be to add some red plants. That's just personal preference on my part. I like red plants. Mark

    Bright Light Plants

The WPG rule used normal output fluorescent lighting. With t-5/individual reflector or high output compact fluorescent the light output is greater per watt than n.o. so that 2.3 WPG of pc would give you more foot/candles on the tank bottom than 2.3 WPG of n.o. Mark

    Bogwood - The Real Stuff

LOL llj. I think I need help as much if not more than Bloo. I can't seem to look at any piece of wood without imagining how it would look covered with this plant or that moss. I'm not well. Awesome find, Bloo. Mark

    125gal Planted Tank

Sorry, that was kind of a back-handed way of saying there weren't any problem plants. Sometimes I let sarcasm get the best of me. I did a lot of research into algae eaters over the last couple of months. I've read about the flagfish but it didn't mention them eating the hair and staghorn algae...

    Discus Tankmates

According to the apisto geeks at apistogramma.com apistos can reside with discus. Specifically, they mentioned a. diplotaeni, a. Paucisquamis, a. Hongsloi and a. Macmasteri. They cautioned not to put a. Borelli with discus. Borelli like cooler temps. Mark

    125gal Planted Tank

At home I have a 200 gallon plastic tank in which I condition and temper my water. I have a 400gph pond pump that I use to pump the water into the aquariua. I just connect the pump to the python hose and pump to the tanks. My 125g is not at my house. It's set up in a lfs as an advertisement for...

    Water Problem....

It could be oils from the fish food also. I've noticed it before when I've started my ammonia off with fish food. Mark

    Amano Aquascaping Demonstration

I saw a similar demonstration linked in Walter's Discus. One of the onlookers commented on how quickly the tank was planted. Amano said it usually takes many hours to do the job right and then said if any of his employees planted a tank that quickly they would be fired. I wish I had his gift. Mark

    125gal Planted Tank

Thanks y'all. As with everything, it's a work in progress. I have to wait until after Father's Day to take more pics as my daughter is home from college for the summer and has repossessed her camera. When I went to buy a camera, my wife had to spill the secret that our kids are pitching in...

    Blue Ram Help.

I have a pair of german rams in my discus tank that have spawned twice. They're all over the tank and beg for food along with the rest. In their opinions, it's a ram tank, not a discus tank. Mark

    New World Vs African Cichlids

I like both but lean toward discus. As annka5 pointed out, your tapwater parameters may lend themselves to keeping one or the other. I vote for lots of research. Mark

    Discus Tankmates

I class adult as 6" and up. My brown is about 7", and yeah, we're starting to call some of his tankmates 'feeder-neons'. He's definitely a predator. We started with 20 neons and I think there are about 15 left. I may wind up having to replace them with some rummy-nose or cardinals if he eats all...

    Discus Tankmates

Rams will get along fine with adult discus. I have them together and they basically ignore each other. I'm keeping neons, rasbora hets, pygmy cories, otos, SAEs and kuhli loaches with the discus also. I had amano and cherry shrimp in the tank and my adult brown ate all of them. Mark

    125gal Planted Tank

Hi folks. I just joined your forum yesterday. Looks like a great site. Here are some pics of my discus tank, though I don't have a good pic of the fish. They hide from the red focusing light on my camera.

    Bulbs

Just be sure and match the type of lamp you're replacing. T-8 for t-8, t-12 for t-12, etc. I concur with replacing both lamps. I run all 6700K on my planted tanks. Mark

    Howdy From Texas

Hi folks. I was invited to come check out your forum. After some lurking, I've decided to join. I'll keep the name of the person who invited me confidential so if y'all decide I'm an idiot it won't reflect poorly on her. I've been keeping fish alive since 1968. Currently we have 4 aquaria; a...
