    Kissing Gouramis

I would be against it Kissing Gouramis really need a little more room to swim. You could try a smaller gourami like the honey gourami (Colisa chuna) or the dwarf gourami (C. lalia). They will be semi-aggressive so if you are going for a really calm tank I would try another type of fish.

Osphronemus Laticlavius - Red Fin Giant Gourami

I have seen these kept in public aquariums, with many larger species of peaceful to semi-peaceful fish. Including: stingrays, arrowanas, larger species of barbs (Tinfoil, etc.), and also each other. They are pretty docile, so as long as you have the room they are fine to be with many other...

In Need Of A Little Advice....please

To answer your questions in order: 1) High tanks hold less fish than low tanks, so if your tank is high you want to be light on stocking. I really wouldn't call the Juwel tank hight though, so you can stock around 1 inch a gal. 2) In such a tank you could have four or five schools of tetras...

    Flame Honey Gouramis

Keep feeding flake to the other fish in the tank. If they do not feed for a few days don't worry. If after a week they still haven't eaten try some frozen foods. If they still refuse frozen foods, then give them a little bit of live food to make sure they have something to eat. I doubt it will...

    Oh No!

If the store closes you should definately try thatfishplace, you can look them up online under thatpetplace.com and then choose fish. Their prices are very low generally and shipping is not outrageous.

Can you help me with new fish?

Sorry this took so long, forgot I posted it. Yeah I have seriously thought about them. If you look at my avatar you should recognize a familiar face then. I really love Badis and they are great fish. I think that is probably what I am going to go with.

    ICH or ICK(?)

Keep treating the tank. Most treatments are effective but remeber the life cycle of ich can allow it to survive in statis for a few weeks without a host. Trying adding a little bit of salt after the treatment is over, and also raise the temp to say 85 or 86 during treatment. Oh and it doesn't...

Can you help me with new fish?

I would like to purchase an easily spawned asain bottom feeder of some sort, does anyone know of any? Thanks.

    My poor little Liza :(

I would try tempting her with some frozen or live food, but I would try changing the water every day, just a little, to make sure that the tank water is fresh. Other than that its really up to her whether she feeds or not.

    The Chorus Has Started

They do sound great, like little frogs singing.
  12. C

    Gouramis

Try to keep the temp in the pond above 70F, other than that they should be okay.

    Shelf life of aquarium products

Flake left out stays good for about a month. However in the freezer it would be different. A rough rule is chemical rxns. are reduced by half when you reduce the temperature by half. So that is considerably cooler, so about three- four months I think in the freezer would be ok. Frozen is...

    Tropical Fish ( yellow )

Yeah, I definately thought it was a cichlid when I first read this, but a better description could be very helpful. Fin number shape and size are good.

    what works well with dwarfs?

Yeah more gaint danios for sure. Cherry barbs are good too. How about harlequins, or many of the species of rasbora.

Which fish can tolerate Salt Water Conditions?

Right scaleless fish can't tolerate salt well, nor can fish that come from acidic conditions generally. Fish that will tolerate salt well as you found out are mollies, platies, guppies, many gobies, most eels, some puffers, a few species of cichlid, and some fish like zebras danios. Never add...

    pH adjuster

You can use pH buffers, but I think the pH adjusters you're talking about are not so good for plants. You can keep plants in water with it but they will grow more slowly and less lushly.

    Filtration Requirements

I think what they believe is not enough filtration is a fear that this unit looks old and not as efficient as some of the newer models. I wouldn't suggest it because it will be diificult to clean that sponge out very well, and you can't add carbon. However it will be enough to filter your tank...

    gouramis breeding

Well, if you've kept betta you've got a good start. You can breed honey gouramis and dwarf gouramis in a ten gallon tank, but you will have to move the fry to a grow out tank.

    I shall call him mini-me.

How about any of the dwarf rasboras? Or you could try Badis badis sp. scarlet if you like.

    Bactonex for possible fungus

It does indeed sound like fungus. I would look for an anti-fungal treatment.

    Honey Gourami

Honey gouramis are good hardy fish. I would definately suggest them in any tank that doesn't have any large boistrous fish.

    breeding Gouramis

In fact they are the same species!! The family, which you referred to includes all other gouramis, and bettas. The genus which is the first name narrows it down to the pearls, moons, and snakeskins. The last word is the species name. So they are fine to breed together they are the same type of...

    stress

You'll need to tell us a little more than that I think. But if you mean does your betta run it's nose up and down the glass. Then no it just wants more food.
  25. C

    Bubble nest

You could try to put it in a net breeder but that might stress the male out. Try lifting it out with a bowl so you get all the fry too then you can move them to a seperate tank.
  26. C

    Dominant Pearl

They are only aggressive at spawning time. If they were the cause of your ram's death probably not directly. However it is most likely the stressed ram was quickly infected by a disease or a parasite and died of that. I would suggest removing the pearls or letting them breed after about a week...

question about coppersafe and my tank after it

Copper, once placed in a tank will never leave. It will bond like you said and slowly release itself over time. Hardy inverts are usually fine but like you said the tank is never invert safe again.
  28. C

    Kribs Okay with others?

You won't be able to keep the kribs with the bristlenose or the pearl eventually. If they want to breed they will kill them. I would suggest, like it says above, a group of six or so hardy schooling fish. Zebra danios are a great choice.
  29. C

    Dwarf Gouramis

Gouramis are fine solo. If you want more add two females to one male, and no more than one male per tank, unless it is a moderate - large tank. Sounds like you have honey gouramis or possible dwarf gouramis. But I would lean towards honey gouramis.
  30. C

    Gouramis and bubblenesting

Male blue gouramis rarely produce large nests. They will produce large nests in bacteria laden water.
  31. C

    Red Tailed Black Sharks

Probably not RTBS can be highly aggressive, and they are always at least slightly aggressive. Your glowlights might suffer. The pleco would be fine with the glowlights.
  32. C

    Pearl Gourami

If the male can't build a nest they won't breed. You really need a breeding tank to breed these fish. If they don't breed the female will either reaborb her eggs or jettison them.
  33. C

    temperature??

They prefer temps over 75F but they can survive for a while at 70F. However I would definately suggest you get a heater, and on that note you'll need a larger tank... :shifty:

    Betta's uneaten pellets

You can't put a hermit crab in they're saltwater. You could try a snail or two in. Probably no other fish though.

    Gourami acting weird?

Is she hanging at the surface gasping or swimming around with jerky movements?
  36. C

    weird looking fish

They better not go in a marine section of they will die very soon after. They are true freshwater fish. The tank should be well cycled and there should be some snail action before you add them though.
  37. C

    Look at these

They look great and the price isn't too bad. Plants can grow out and have flowers too. But fish could jump out.
  38. C

    male blue gourami not happy

Sounds like stress, are other fish bothering him? If not he may have an internal parasite, probably gill flukes treat him for that, and he should stop gagging for air.

    BLOAT OR DROPSY?!?!?!

Like it said above, if he has dropsy he probably isn't going to live  . You can try tetracyclin, but dropsy is rarely caused by bacteria so it probably won't help. Give him the best possible care and water, and if it is his time to go then you might want to euthanize him.  How...

    total newbie question

It is good to keep live or plastic plants with your fish even when they aren't breeding. They like places to hide and the plants provide them with it. Now will plants grow in your tank? Some hardy ones will grow in pea gravel, floating plants will no matter what kind of substrate, but you need...
