Hi, I have another probably stupid question, but I'm confused by what the LFS guy gave me. I have two male Betta's in a divided tank slightly larger than 1L (can get water exchange between the two compartments). Normally do water changes every 2-3 days (25%) and treat the water with stresscoat & aquarium salts and aquapurer (aerobic bacteria), pH is always within 7-7.3. Several weeks ago one of the Bettas got Tail-rot (I'm starting to think that this wasn't a coincidence, as it happened about a week after putting a new Betta in the other compartment) I treated the tailrot with BettaFix, salt and stresscoat and his tail is growing back beautifully. I have noticed over the last week that there has been some white stringy material in the water - I thought this might be bacterial overgrowth after using the BettaFix and really scrubbing out the tank which would have killed off the good bacteria in the tank. However I have noticed the last couple of days that it seems to be on the other male betta (the one who didn't have tail-rot) it's not coming out of his mouth, seemed to be more laying on top of him, and it is more in his compartment than the other, they both seem happy though, eating and blowing bubble nests. So I was concerned about it being fungus (and possibly what had caused the tail-rot in the other Betta in the first place). I went to the LFS and asked the guy for something to treat fungus on my Betta (and told him what had been happening). He gave me Bactonex and told me this would take care of the problem, and I have given them one dose already and it doesn't seem to have any effect. (Bactonex is low dose Amicrine and Methylene Blue) and if you read the bottle it says that it is to be used as a broad-spectrum preventative when doing water changes (I would have thought this a bad idea as it would kill off the good bacteria in the tank). So I guess I'm asking is does anyone think that this is in fact fungus or bacterial overgrowth, if so will using something like bactonex help, or should I try something else? (brand name but also active ingredients would help as sometimes I can't the same brands here in Australia). Any help would be greatly appreciated, I feel so guilty when i think they are sick.
