they have to have water test kits...no fish store is without them, thats just stupid bussiness pratice if they dont carry them

yeah, its i'm gonna move it to a larger tank, these barbs ignore the gourami completely though, just chase each other

I've got 6 tiger barbs and 1 kissing gourami in my 20 gallon tank, the tiger barbs seen to chase each other every so often, they leave the gourami alone, is this normal? also one of the smallest barbs hangs out at the top of the tanks, away from most of the other fish...is it a loner, it seems...

my kissing gouramis and barbs get along fine

pelcos are really tough, there like cockroaches and surpising my Kissing gourami are quite tough as well, when i got them they were so stressed they were white, even though cycling they've gotten bigger and are a nice pink now some of my tiger barbs were too

um, my tiger barbs did that cause the nitrates got to high, it even says so on this site, you might want to check your water

yeah i'm on city water nitrate and nitrite levels have gone down though, i'll keep checking and try bottled water next two small tablespoons are all i put in a 20 gallon tank

i dont know where you are. but here in Georgia, we have lots of red clay, it is far from fertile, it chokes plants, it also gets rock hard when wet.

yeah thats what i figured. The gouramis and pelco seem fine, the last bala looks stressed out, and the other barb died, no surprise there. Ammonia level reads 0, Nitrate level is 60ppm, nitrite is high, dont know what, but test strip is almost red, dide 20% water change. I figure the last...

changed water 30% last night, added nirtate, chorloide remover, and a 2 tablespoons of bacteria starter, found 5 fish dead when i got up this moring, my barbs and bala are all dead ( the balas were gonna go to a bigger tank, too late now :angry: ) my 2 gouramis are fine, and pelco is fine...

So lets say your a noobie with a...ooooh, i dunno, 20 gallon tank, and the plastic plants just dont do it for you, or you'd like to mix, whats the easist plant to grow in there for a new aquairum and a new aquarist?

no it looks like the first one posted ok, got ride of everything but the barbs, they took the polcein express.....just kidding, gave them back to the pet shop did water test, results bad...changed water 60%, will test in about 4 hours again thanks for all your help, my experitese is limited...

how big a school, 7,10,15? I know they will nip fins, so i dont think guppies or betas is a good idea
