My 26 Gallons Diary

I keep my female bettas in a 20 US gallon, and they are by far more happy and energetic than any of the fish I have in 10 gallons, 5 gallons, or 2 gallons. I used to have a veiltail with a lot of 'baggage' in there a long while back, and he had absolutly no problem getting from top to bottom. I understand that a HM or something would have a lot of trouble, but critisizing anyone who keeps their betta in an environment over 10 gallons is just silly. It all depends on the fish, and I know my fish are fine >_>

But I still agree with the tank mates listed, that betta needs to go. Tetras are schooling, and tetras are fin shredders.
Keddy I totally agree with you about Bettas doing fine in large tanks. I have 3 females in a community setup of 48 gallons and they are all very active and healthy.

However I very much disagree with the sweepings statement on "tetras" - there are 100's of different types of tetras and that is a gross sweeping statement to make  My bleeding heart tetras completely ignore the bettas and vice versa) and quite happily even swim alongside each other. There are however certain members of the tetra family that can and will nip.

For example glowlight, cardinal and blue emperor tetras are suitable tankmates with bettas. Blacktetras are fin nippers in small groups and tanks.

Its a tank with lots of potential even for its size which is important, i do agree to get some bogwood and plants in there.
Heres mine with bogwood and plants in, damm just realised i should really get a new picture as the plants have taken off since then, as this was when it was newly done. but it gives you an idea, that tank there is a 240 litreUk

I apologise, I was making a very vague statement. I was referring to the tetras GF has in their tank. I myself have bloodfin tetras with my girls, and have never had a dispute or fin nip, and know not all tetras are nippers.

Ah ok :) just thought I'd point that out in case you or others thought all tetras are out of bounds.
Though that said, it's still always a risky business trying to mix bettas with other fish.
