"bauble" Hanging From The Bottom Of A Boesemani Rainbow

Not quite sure if this belongs here. Feel free to move the thread to somewhere more appropriate if necessary. I've had a few Boesemani Rainbows for many months now, and never before have I seen this. One of them has a spherical "bauble", almost like a sack hanging from its bottom. It seems as...

    Rosy Barb Unwell

One of my three rosy barbs has gradually become paler. I thought I was imagining it to start with, but it is now quite noticeable from a distance. Water quality etc is fine, and all other fish are ok. Behaviour is normal, but on close examination its tail and dorsal fin seem a little...

    Siamese F.f. - Tankmates

I have never kept Siamese Fighting Fish, and have very little knowledge about keeping them, but.... At my LFS, I recently noticed that Siamese Fighting Fish were distributed between numerous tanks (one in each) sharing with whichever species being sold in those tank. Including Guppies (with no...

    Green Angel-Hair

Hiya guys, as always I wonder if you can help me identify and explain (or post a link) a bit more about what I don't know about (!) I have (for many months now) had a green angel-hair like plant/organism/algae(?) in my tank. It started being attached to one of the plants, but now it's 'growing'...

    Bubble On Plants

If it's a jelly like bubble, as opposed to an air-bubble, it's more likely to be snails' eggs. I asked a similar question not so long ago, and that's what I was told.

    Attaching Java Fern

Thanks - Do the need attaching in the long term, or just to encourage their own natural attachment? If I placed a leaf which has loads of plantlets on it very close to a piece of bogwood, could it ever attach by itself, or will they always need 'manual help'?

    Attaching Java Fern

My Java ferns are sprouting large amount of plantlets. I've read elsewhere that they shouldn't be buried in the substrate like other plants but attached to driftwood and rocks etc. Can someone confirm that this is correct, and offer some practical ways of encouraging this attachment?! Thanks x

Another "unknown" Growing On My Plants

I'm asking you whether you meant to say for me to take them off the leaves and then expect the leaf to die. Or were you telling me to take them off so that the leaves don't die.

Another "unknown" Growing On My Plants

Sorry, can I double check, leave it on the leaf and then take it off and the old leaf may die, or or the old leaf may die?

    Little Insects

I lifted the lid which is over the filter today, to see a 'family' of little insects. They're tiny. At first I thought they were fry swimming back and forth just under the surface of the water, but on closer inspection I realised there were a good few lined around the edge of the water on the...

    Pakistani Loach

I don't doubt your advice/info and am very grateful for it, and I don't intend going against it, but no-one has explained why 3/6 is the minimum number. I understand it when it comes to guppies (male:female ratio, in order to prevent constant raping of the same female)...but if all yoyo loaches...

    Pakistani Loach

Many thanks for that. I have found my new favourite fish! Anyways...I am aware of the size they can grow up to, and the last thing I'd want to do is to overstock, especially with unsuitable fish. However, I'm also aware of the fact that they aren't solitary fish. So, how many Pakistani loaches...

Identification Of Unknown "something" On A Plant Please?!

Ok - now I have millions of tiny little snails! And I expect they'll lay eggs too. I've still only got the two red phantom tetras in the tank at the moment, and am hoping to add a bottom feeder soon. Soooo...It's a well-established 125 litre tank, with loads of snails and a little algae...

Restocking An Almost Empty Long Established Tank

That's a good idea - thanks. I did vac the gravel when I did the water change. Oh, and I (genuinely) forgot to mention a recent white-spot issue with the tetras. I've treated it as it says on the bottle (second dose today) and they look much better. My inexperienced common sense would say to...

Restocking An Almost Empty Long Established Tank

Hiya guys. I've left thigs dwindle over the past year or two, and have found myself with an established 125 litre tank with only two red phantom tetras in it. In 2010 I'm planning to sort it all out! Here's what I've done so far - 50-60% water change, rinsing filter in dirty water New plants...

Is There A List Of Good Algae Eaters

I've recently replanted my tank ready for restocking, I've made quite a large waterchange but haven't "scrubbed" in order to maintain the bacteria etc... However, there's a fair bit of algae around and I really don't want to be a "sucker" ('scuse the pun!) and buy a bottom-feeder/algae-eater...

Identification Of Unknown "something" On A Plant Please?!

Thanks for replying...I did try, but it's on the back side of the leaf (towards the back of the tank) so quite difficult to see, nevermind taking a photo! Do you know of anywhere I could see photos of snail eggs so I could compare?

Identification Of Unknown "something" On A Plant Please?!

Hi guys, I've left things dwindle a little over the past year or two, and have recently replanted my 125 litre tank for restocking. The only inhabitants are two old Red Phantom Tetras (and now some snails, transported on the new plants). I have noticed than on one of the leaves of the new...

    Platy Problem

I have a four month (ish) old blue platy - over the last few days she's been very still and sortof hovering over the gravel (and mostly hiding in a cave). She just keeps flapping her pectoral fins. She did come up for food, so it's not a case that she can't swim around, she just doesn't (if you...

Is My (insert Type Of Livebearer Here) Pregnant?

I think it's a good idea. Infact I was just going to suggest it just before I saw your thread! It would be good if it was just to "weed" that/those particular questions out the list of threads in the livebearer section so that answers to other issues could be found more easily. At the moment...

    Maturation Ages

I apologise if this is asked and answered clearly elsewhere, but I was unable to find it. At what sort of ages to livebearers (mollies and platys in particular) reach the age of maturation, or whenever it is that they start reproducing? Is it as soon as they can be sexed, or do they still have...

    New Angelfish - Threesome...

Thanks everyone :good: My tank's 125 litres. I did risk things a bit when I moved to my new house, and put my tiger barbs in with everything else (which included dwarf gouramis) - I knew I could be in for trouble, but everything's been fine for six months. I also know I risked it in getting...

    New Angelfish - Threesome...

I read that angelfish, once paired up, bond for life. I bought four yesterday, and by this morning, one had died, leaving three. Now, three, surely can't pair up. And I thought I ought to buy another, so I had even numbers. BUT, I never knew what the sexes of the original four were anyway...
