I read that angelfish, once paired up, bond for life. I bought four yesterday, and by this morning, one had died, leaving three. Now, three, surely can't pair up. And I thought I ought to buy another, so I had even numbers.

BUT, I never knew what the sexes of the original four were anyway, neither would I know the sex of a new addition, so, Is there a point making them up to an even number if I don't know that two are female and two are male?!

Besides, if they pair for life, what happens if they'd already paired before I bought them, and I'd left their partners in the tank in the shop?!

...and if so, would the third, unpaired angel be happy with the others pairing up? (Gooseberry!)

not likely, the other pair of angels will bully the other.

how big is your tank? and how tall is it? i wouldn't keep barbs with angels but you may find you can.

Thanks everyone :good:

My tank's 125 litres.

I did risk things a bit when I moved to my new house, and put my tiger barbs in with everything else (which included dwarf gouramis) - I knew I could be in for trouble, but everything's been fine for six months.

I also know I risked it in getting some angels when I already had neon tetras and rummy nosed tetras, but the guy at the LFS assured me that these angels are small enough not to want to make a fish soup out of them!

As I'm currently working nights, I've spent most of today lazing on the sofa infront of the tank - and everything 'seems' hunkeydory' (crossed fingers!)

ok, just keep a good watch on them, the angels may not be big enough now to eat the neons but as adults they will be (rummy nose grow to big to be eaten by angels)
