    Pump Love

Do you mean playing in the outflow? My loaches love to do that. Or maybe there's snails in there. . .

What Catfish Will Come Out In The Day

My albino bristlenose was really shy at at first. He comes out in the mornings before the lights come on. I leave the lights off for a while to give him and my loaches a chance to feed and root around.

    Bristle Nose Plec Eating Bloodworm!?

My albino bristlenose eats anything he can get hold of before my loaches get there :) . I should have called him Pop-eye as he loves his spinach!

    Snail Eating Fish

Loaches eat snails but they're likely to want to eat your shrimps as well. If you could get hold of some, dwarf chain loaches may OK being so small, but then they'd only eat very small snails. And I think they're rare so may be difficult to find.

    The Best Fish Ever

Of the fish I have, my albino bristlenose catfish called Spook is the best. I've had him for about year and he's grown a most impressive set of bristles. I would love to have a tank big enough for zebra plec.

    Loaches With Barbs?

My 100l (approx 20 gallon) tank is a bit bottom-heavy at the mo. I have three Pakistani (yo-yo) loaches and an albino bristlenose catfish. I'm looking for a colourful, active (red?) fish that would swim in the top/middle levels. Would some rosy or cherry barbs mix well with my loaches. Or would...

    Hmmm, Anything I Can Do?

I had seven glowlights and they were rarely altogether. Very early on they split up into a group of four, a two and one that was nearly always on his own. I think the same fish stuck to same groups but not 100 per cent sure as nearly impossible to tell them apart. Nearly four years later I still...

    Loaches & Shrimp?

I had three amano shrimp with two clown loaches with no problems. The loaches just ignored them. But when both clown loaches died after a tragic accident and I decided to replace them with smaller loaches that wouldn't outgrow the tank. Not being able to find any striped loaches like yours, I...

What Fish Would You Keep If You Had The Space/money/time For Them?

A huge gourami-only tank. In the London Aquarium there was tank with at least 70 gouramis. They looked so beautiful my husband had a job to tear me away to look anything else!

    New - Albino Bristlenose

When I first had my albino bristlenose he was very shy so after 'lights out' I'd drop an algae wafer or two (break one in half if yours is really small) near the plant where he was hiding and after a while he'd come out and find it (hopefully before all my other greedy guzzlers did!) You'll...

    Bogwood

I've had a piece of bogwood in my tank for months and it still leaches tanins. Have now got quite used to the colour and it doesn't do the water or our fish any harm. In fact as our water is really hard our fish probably prefer the tank the way it is now. When I visit hubbies relatives in...

Do Your Pets Eat More Healthily Than You Do?

Sorry, this seems to have posted twice. My computer froze up just as I posted this topic and somehow has duplicated my post.

Do Your Pets Eat More Healthily Than You Do?

Just a thought, as I was cutting up some brocolli and spinach for our fish and Harry the hamster. And what did the family want for lunch - chicken and chips

    Stowaways

A friend is setting up a marine tank. No fish in it yet, but he told me he went and bought a big rock and when he put it in his tank out popped a tiny crab and a shrimp! The only stowaways I've ever had are snails on plants!

What Does Your Bristlenose Do That Makes You Laugh?

The heater has got a cover on it, he sits on the cover. Wherever we move it he still sits on it and doesn't seem to have come to any harm so far. The heater used be housed in a box in the corner of the tank but we needed to get a new one a few months ago and couldn't get one that fitted inside...

What Does Your Bristlenose Do That Makes You Laugh?

Our albino bristlenose Spook likes resting on the heater near the outflow pipe and his bristles get blown about like mad in the current. He looks so funny!

    Long-finned Bristlenose?

Thanks for the pics LisaLQ, that last one defo looks like it's not from this world! My albino BN (he's called Spook) doesn't look like that, thank goodness. It's just that his front fins over-lap the back ones when he spreads them out. I don't think the long-finned ones look that nice, and it's...

    Bristle Nose

Get some amano shrimps if you can. They definately eat hair algae, they don't add much to the bio-load of your tank and they're great fun to watch as well!

Aren't Bristle Nose Catfish The Best!

My albino BN really loves spinach, I put a few leaves in a clip, he hides upside-down under the biggest leaf and chomps away under the noses of my loaches who also go mad for spinach. So funny to watch.

    Long-finned Bristlenose?

My albino bristlenose seems to be getting quite long fins. He's a few months old and still growing a bit. Is there such a thing as a long-finned bristlenose? Or maybe he's just hit the gangly teenager stage! :D

    Randy Fish You Have Kept.

Our silver-tipped tetras seem to have one-track minds. Good job they're not livebearers or we'd be over-run!

    Your First Fish

My first fish was a goldfish called Winnie because I won it at a fair. Survived for quite a few years in a tiny plastic tank (sorry Winnie :( ). My first tropical fish were five guppies, collectively known as 'the little uns'.

Exactly How Aggressive Are Yo-yo And Skunk Loaches?

I got yo-yo loaches when I couldn't find zebra ones and I wouldn't be without them! I have three, I understand that in groups of three or more aggression is spread out but I haven't seen any real aggression. The biggest will chase the others away from food and they all get excited at food time...

How Important Is Sand To A Loach?

I have 3 yo-yo loaches and they love burrowing in the gravel and uprooting my plants (grrr!). The gravel doesn't seem to do them any harm, just make sure it's rounded and not the sort with sharp edges.

    Emperor Tetra With Pop Eye

Phew! I didn't realise my innocent little post would turn into World War Three! My fish are listed in my profile (just recently discovered how to that... ) As well as a pair of Emperor tetras I have 4 silver-tips, 2 glowlights, 2 SAEs, 3 yo-yo loaches, an albino bristlenose and 2...

    Emperor Tetra With Pop Eye

My female emperor tetra has had pop eye (in one eye) for more than two weeks. Started off doing several small water changes in addition to usual fortnightly water change (around 20 per cent) I normally do. Have also tried two doses of an anti-bacterial. Now I'm stumped. I am still doing extra...

    What's In A Name?

Great thread this, really interesting. Thanks stang1! My user name is partly based on my real name and also due to being a huge Blondie/Debbie Harry fan in my teens. I went to see the band at the Hammersmith Odeon in London and tried (unsuccessfully!) to get family and friends to call me Deni...

    Is This Normal?

Our three yo yos often have fat tummies after they've eaten. They're still young and still growing and eat loads. What do you feed yours? Ours have flake or sinking pellets most days, and brine shrimp or blood worms (these are dried but in a kind of fish paste so they sink) a couple of times a...

    Yo-yo Loach Puzzling Behaviour

The smallest of my yo-yo loaches spends a lot of time swimming up and down the side of the tank. It continues to do this for quite a while even when the lights go out and all the other fish are resting. I haven't noticed it flashing or otherwise seeming uncomfortable and it's not being picked on...

    Sae's - Do They Fight

I have 2 SAEs, when they were babies they'd hang out together but later one got bigger (and fatter!) than the other and would chase it all over the tank. The smaller one hid in the plants and looked paler. I was going to return one of them to our lfs but they suddenly seemed to come round and...

    Hair Algae

Amano shrimp are great, our lfs actually sells them under the name 'algae-eating shrimp'. They're brilliant algae chompers, don't take up much space and entertaining to watch as well.

    Water Change Frequency

I have a 20 gallon (100l) tank and take out two bucketfuls (not sure what percentage that is!) once a fortnight. How much and how often you do a water change I suppose depends on what size tank and what fish you have, and how messy they are. Where I live the water is quite hard and I get a...

Out Of Your Fish What One Are You Most Attached To?

My three baby yo-yo loaches, so full of personality and they get so excited at food time, zipping around and 'clicking'. I'm trying to get them to take Delica paste food from my hand, holding the sachet under the water, that would be so cool. And they play 'follow the leader' around the tank for...

Loach Size I Am Intrested To See

I bought three yo-yo loaches at the beginning of the year. Two have retained a definate yo-yo pattern and are now around 2 and a half inches long. The other grew really quickly and is twice the size of the others, also its pattern is changing as it gets bigger, looks more like dark bands with...

    Piranha Caught In River

Anyone see this story in the newspapers? A boy was fishing and caught a piranha. It was alive so he put it back but later saw it floating dead in the water. Some heartless b**d must have dumped it in the river. Poor fish.

Changing The Filter Pads, Is It Ok?

Regarding changing/replacing filter sponges I assume it depends on what kind of filter you have. I have a Jewel tank with an internal filter which has four blue filter sponges and a white pad on top. I change the white pad every 2 weeks and rinse the top ones alternately every few weeks in tank...
