    Countering A Mini Cycle

I may be getting a shipment of fish soon, but really I'd need them all at the same time (since they're travelling across the country, I don't particularly want to have to do it repeatedly). Is there any way of countering a mini cycle, should one come along due to the increased bioload...

The Latin name is Otocinclus Cocama, that might help LFSs be able to track it down for you.

    Female Endlers?

mouse, if you go to www.photobucket.com and register for a (free) account, you can upload photos very easily. I'm immensely interested in these pure blue Endlers, I always presumed that the orangey ones are pure. What country are you in? And what society do you belong to?

    Female Endlers?

Female Endlers' give birth every 28 days, guppies take longer. There's a nice anti-no female Endler argument. If you are suggesting that 'survival of the fittest' would eventually weed out female Endlers in favour of female guppies, you are totally wrong. Since female Endlers breed more than...

    Female Endlers?

Uhm.. http://members.cox.net/newcomb1/elb_collage.jpg Admittadly, they look similar, but all fish of the same species look similar. You probably would look at your neighbour funny if he appeared to be a large cat, for instance. More specifically, Endlers are from a lake. Just one. The ones that...

    Cory Tank?

It would be great for a cory tank! That much space could mean lots and lots of cories. They prefer to be in groups so they can shoal and play, but will only shoal with their same species. Therefore you can't have one of each different type. If you wanted lots, then you could go for one of the...

    Can I Do This?

If I were you I wouldn't risk it. The most reliable quotes I've heard for discus stocking (what I'd use if I ever made a discus tank) is 20 gallons per discus. I wouldn't threaten the space you've got with more fish, discus are delicate! Of course there are always success stories, but do you...

Having A Hard Time Educating My Sister

An evil act for the greater good? To be honest when I read your first post I presumed she was 10 or younger. I thought when people got older they got wiser... or at least got a better sense of their impact in controlling animals' lives. :/

Why Does Almost Everyone On Here Instead Of Saying How Many Gallons Th

Excellent point piper, it makes more sense to use litres on this site. People post in gallons, but which gallons? Jolly confusing. How much faster does the world really need to be - saving the amount of time it takes to open 'calculator' and times the number by 3.8? Hmm.

    Name of this guppy

The first one has some distinct Endler's markings, I reckon that one's a hybrid, but the second looks more like natural guppy markings.

Can anyone help identify this killi?

I was pointed over here from the general discussion page, I think this is a killi but not sure. I hope this is the right part of the forum to post on, anyway.

    What should I get?

If I were you I'd add 2 females. Adding more males into a relatively small tank doesn't seem to be a recipe for long term happiness (though admittadly I haven't kept platies). On the other hand that does look like an already well (if not over) stocked tank. If you do get more fish, make sure...

    Big swordtail in alligator tank

Yeah, maybe they are dither fish for the alligators. To be honest I can't imagine a swordtail giving an alligator a run for its money in a chase, and an alligator would have to eat thousands to fill itself up surely! By the way, Elisabeth83 what is that beautiful fish in your avatar?

Female Endler's dropping like flies :(

Female Endler's dropping like flies :(

A week ago, I had 3 male Endler's, 6 female and 2 babies in my 38 litre tank. Today, I'm down to 3 females. The first two deaths seemed unprovoked, there was nothing as far as I could tell wrong with them. The third looked like she was giving birth (she was pregnant). I do a 40% water change...

something is wrong with my endler

Do any of the others have the red blotches? It may be a parasitic or bacterial infection, try adding a dose of myxazin or something similar. Do a 50% water change as well, that can't do any harm.

Pics of my discus and updates of the tank =)

I was also lured by the 'do not click'. Crafty... If I were you I'd stick with fake plants. If you're not that confident with live ones then I wouldn't risk a Discus tank as a test subject. Nice btw!

    What is your favorite Livebearer?

I'm not liking all this Endler's fascism, they deserve their own selection box thingy. No, actually, they deserve two. THAT'S how amazing they are! B) (suppose I'll have to go with guppies then *sigh*...)

    WANTED - female Endler's

bloozoo2, I posted both of the threads at the same time. ferrikins, I can't find a website for them, I don't think they've got one. Best phone up I suppose.

    Which Livebearer??

I'm in agreement with the others, you need to either get about 6 more neons or get rid of the one you've got. In the long run the latter may be more humane. As for livebearers I'd suggest maybe 2 male and 5 female Endler's livebearers (the king of all livebearers!) Endler's are (from what I've...

    WANTED - female Endler's

Thanks! I completely forgot about them. Went yesterday and got all I needed, such a beautiful shop. If you're planning on getting them delivered, I'd really consider driving down there. Admittadly, the traffic is a problem but still... what a shop! :)

    WANTED - female Endler's

Hi, I've already posted in the Buy/Sell area, but I thought that I might get more response here. I am looking for 4 female Endler's, and they would need to be posted as I have no means of transport. I live in London. Thanks, James

Cute pygmy cories arrived this morning

What size tank do you have? I think pygmaeus max at about 3cm, so I wouldn't expect much larger than that. Be careful about food though, in my experience the smaller they are the higher their metabolism, and the more often they need to be fed, so make sure they're getting the food and it isn't...

    Problems with Endler's

Okay... right. A few months ago I got 8 Endler's. 4 male, 4 female. I knew that it wasn't ideal, but I had them posted from across the country, and they were only being sold in pairs. On the bright side (sort of) 1 of the males was a bit weedy and thin and didn't eat, so died after about a week...

    Endlers Guppies

I'm not entirely sure about compatibility, but maybe a pair of killi's? If not, I'd add a bunch of java moss and 4/5 females (since there are already 8 males there'd be a lot of harassment on the females). Alternatively, ensure excellent filtration, more frequent water changes, and add 8 females...

    Stocking question

Hi, I'm planning on adding 8 pygmy cories to my 38 litre tank (they'll be with 7 endlers). I want to add them all at the same time, is there any way I could avoid the sudden build up of ammonia forming a mini cycle? If I did daily water changes, would that work? Thanks, James

    My Cory Is Acting Wierd

A few weeks ago this happened to my albino cory, then some red marks appeared all over its body and about a week later it was dead :(. I don't know whether it's the same thing, but I think it's best to be on the safe side. This is the advice I was given...

    Please help

My albino cory has been swimming around like a normal fish recently. It also regularly goes up to the surface as if for air, but stays there like its trying to jump out of the top of the tank (sort of like sturgeon do). It has also developed red marks that look like blood all over its body, and...

    What lighting to use?

Hi, I'm planning a heavily planted tank (roughly 112 litres, about 24.8 UK gallons/29 US gallons) and I have absolutely no idea what kind of lighting to use. From what I've been able to find out, I think that one of these lights would be most suitable: Zoo Med Flora Sun Flourescent Bulb (8500K...

Can eroded barbles cause cory death?

One of my cories just died in exactly the same way, I put it down to me having (not for much longer) sharpish gravel which wore its barbels away... and seemed like it couldn't eat because of that and died from starvation. That's my theory anyway, any thoughts? The more I did water changes to...

    endlers

Breeding endlers with guppies or other species create hybrids. Endlers are probably extinct in the wild, so the strains in the hobby are all that is left. If you do cross breed some, please keep them to yourself/do not sell them, as they may be mistaken for 'true' or 'pure' endlers.

    If you were a fish...

A fish! :D Sorry... A Discus - I'm a communal creature, sort of delicate, people can't take their eyes off me *head inflates*, I'm a 'King of the Real World' if you will. And no doubt be a fantastic parent. Although... to be honest, I'm a bit hesitant about letting my offspring suck on my...

external filter for my discus tank?

I hate to be annoying, but I'll have to say it to ease my conscience... I think that 7 discus will need much more than 200 litres. 200 litres = 52.6 US gallons, and I read in a discus forum somewhere that they need about 20 gallons each so... yeah... Sorry if I'm wrong, I just thought I should say.
