Well i went to one of my LFS and its closing down :( but he is selling all his tnks :)

There is a tank which is 48" x 12" x 12" which holds 30 gallons...
i would like to buy it as it costs £40 for the lot and the first thing that poped into my head was corys

Would a tank like this be ok for just corys and how many could i have?
is there anything i would have to do to make it ok for corys?
Do any of you peeps have a tank just of corys? if so got any pics?

im rather excited about this :) cant wait to hear what you all think

It would be great for a cory tank! That much space could mean lots and lots of cories. They prefer to be in groups so they can shoal and play, but will only shoal with their same species. Therefore you can't have one of each different type. If you wanted lots, then you could go for one of the pygmy varieties (corydoras hastatus, corydoras habrosus and corydoras pygmaeus), and I reckon you could get about 20 in that 30 gallon with space for more swimmy fish.
You'd also need (well okay maybe not need, but for the purposes of keeping cories it's very advisable for their enjoyment) to use sand as the substrate. Other substrates such as gravel will wear out corys' feelers (forgot the correct word).
When you said '£40 for the lot', are you sure the lot is filter etc.? Because most LFS' have their tanks set up to a main larger filter.
There are lots of types of cory out there, so if you go hunting (not literally) and find something you like, come back here and I'm sure someone will have experienced that particular type.

Hi CluelessScot :)

A cory community is a great kind of tank to set up. I have several and just love to watch them.

Here's a snapshot of some of mine. They were sleeping at one end of the tank, and I just caught them by surprise. Sorry it's not fancied up, but they weren't expecting company. :D

Im not 100% sure im getting the tank, there is about 8 or 9 different sized tanks for sale. Its every thing tank, filter, heater, hood, light, gravle and tank. The tank i have now has sand and i love it lol :D so do the corys :p

Do corys produce alot of waste? i have a plec in my tank and it craps for 20 fish so i dont know if corys do to?

Inchworm, that is so ace, how many corys you got in there and what size is the tank?

i was looking at some second hand tanks and this guy had a few corys and they were huge! like about 3" long and bout 2" tall... kind smart looking really lol :)

I currently have 15 cories in my 30 US gallon. They seem to be very happy. Im moving them soon to my new 55 gallon that will be a cory species tank. I might put some more different types of armored catfish in there too. From what Ive seen, my cories are not big waste producers. The only fish I have currently that creates a lot of waste is my sunset orange plattie and she eats everything. Ive been researching the idea of the cory species tank a lot and I cant wait to get it done. I must thank Inchworm for all the help
