    Too Many Fish?

Hi, I don't mean to add any more to your dilema but I would just like to add keep an eye on the Paradise Gouramis, you should be ok if they are two females or even a male and a female but two males can be very aggressive towards each other. You should be able to sex them quite easily as the...

    new Paradise fish

Hi, We've got a male and a female in the same tank and they are great together but I think this may not be the case for all paradise fish. She's the second female we've had (the other sadly died a few months ago) and we replace her with an almost fully grown female. The last female we had was...

    Tank stock

Just going back to an earlier point, we live in Herts and have seen a few Dwarf Puffers around, def saw some in Maidenhead Aquatics, think it was in Basingstoke?. If you wanted to go that way give them a call, I think they're a great chain. B)

    would mollies like some cucumber?

It shouldn't but if there is still some left after an hour or so I'd take it out and throw it away so it doesn't rot away at the bottom.

    Sorry, Another Stocking Question

Personally I'd still be very nervous about keeping the sucking loach, we had one and for 8 months he was lovely and then he just turned and was harrassing everyone, even the gouramis and paradise fish who stayed far away from the bottom. I'd re-house him if possible which is what we did even...

    Whats your favorite Gourami?

Paradise and Red Robins for me!. Paradise fish are such characters and even though they get a bit of a bad press I think they're lovely!

moving up to a 20 gallon tank

I really wouldn't add any more fish until you have the 20g bought and set up, your 5g must be so overcrowded at the moment. Why not get the 20g and move the other fish out and maybe buy 2 more female guppies and leave the male and 2 females in the 5g?.

    CAEs?

No I suppose not, it must be for nutrition although ours was well fed and was a fantastic algae eater but was the most hyper fish and couldn't sit still for a minute! He used to go up and down the glass cleaning it and then hop on to any passing fish and then back onto glass duty. Maybe he...

    CAEs?

That is true, but Lions kill for food, CAE just seem to harrass other fish for kicks!! But yes, evil is a little harsh!

    Shy or Unhappy Gourami's

When we first added our Red robin Gouramis they were extremely shy and would hid if you walked past the tank, but they soon built up their confidence and are fine now and are great characters to watch and will swim with you as you walk past (if you see what I mean!?) I'm sure you'rs will be...

Is it bad to ruin a bubble nest??

Our male Paradise fish has just successfully made a bubble nest, mated with the female and now we have the tiniest baby Paradise fish in there. We've had him for about 8 months and he's always had a female with him and he constantly tries to build nests. They normally break up with the...

    LFS Ideas

I always think it's nice when the tanks the fish for sale are kept in are planted and interesting (although this must make it hardier for the people to catch the fish to sell them!) I hate seeing completely plain glass tanks. I think having sample tanks set up for 10g, 20g etc. is a good idea...

    Zebra Danio Babies

Oh right so they were in cold water?. Ours are in with our Tropical fish - maybe thats why we haven't had any babies?. Well good luck with them and keep us posted with the baby pics!

    Zebra Danio Babies

Congratulations, ours have spawned a few times but everyone else eats the eggs before we get any babies. How did you do it - what are they in a tank with?.

    fry! fry! fry!

See fish soup!! What are you going to call them? Congratulations - looks like you've got your hands full there! Blimey - all of them from one little fish - she must be exhausted!

    Algea eaters

I was recommended a Bristlenose plec and told they don't get very big at all?. I don't know if anyone can confirm that - they look very nice too!.

    Kuhli Loaches

I've heard they'll eat fry, have you had a problem with this and your Guppies?.
  18. K

    fry! fry! fry!

Blimey, must look like fish soup in there! What do most people do with fry?. Do you give them to LFS or keep them?. That could cause a big case of MTS!! :D

    Kuhli Loaches

Thanks, I'll keep my eyes open for some, they don't get them in any of our LFS's that regularly. Do they mix ok with other bottom feeders like Corys?.

    Kuhli Loaches

Hi, Been thinking about Kuhlis recently. I know they prefer to be kept in groups of 6ish as their very withdrawn on their own, but does anyone know what size tank 6 could be kept in?. Thanks

    Dyed Fish

I think it's awful, well done on speaking out, you never know the old couple may pass on that advice to others?. I've never seen a dyed fish in any of the shops near us but I hope I would have the conviction to speak to people who were looking to buy them (probably to the embarrassment of my...

    overstocked?

There are some plants that thrive in low light situations - we bought some from Maidenhead Aquatics over the weekend as we have one tank in a low light area, they were a bit more expensive but it may be worth it to get some live plants - not much help but the name began with 'C'

    Help!

Update - sad news I'm afraid, she died. She seemed to get loads better, started swimming in the right direction and then, bam no more female paradise fish!. We had moved her to a hospital tank as we thought it may have been bacterial rather than psychological (analysing fish now - what next!?)...

Ahhh, yes they look nice, think I'll go along to my LFS and have a look. Thanks for your suggestions Ferris. :D

    Suggestions?

Cool. Our Paradise Fish seem amazingly calm and keep themseleves to themselves so I don't foresee them being any trouble. I think I'm being a bit thick  I can't find any details of Dwarf Rainbow Fish in the fish index - are they known as anything else or what section are they under?

    Suggestions?

We do have two little shrimps who I forgot (oops!)and they are very busy little bees, we will miss the algae cleaning ability of the loach as he is always very busy cleaning something (shame he doesn't stick to that and leave the other fish alone). I shall have a look at plecs now, would you...

    Suggestions?

Hi, We have a 125ltr tank, current occupiers are: 3 Red Robin Gouramis, 2 Paradise Fish, 4 Zebra Danios (and currently one Sucking Loach but sadly we're going to take him back to our LFS as after 6 months he is growing big and has started harrassing the Paradise Fish!). After we take him back...

    Help!

Yes the sucking loach was a mistake. We've had him for about 6 months and he normally keeps himself to himself but we watch him closely and we'll move him or pass him back to one of the dealers round here if he starts causing problems. He's quite a character but he does have an evil streak in...

    Help!

Ah good stuff - Thanks!. Well maybe it is just the stress of the move and the change in tank that's upset her. And as you say the PH is bound to be slightly different. Think I'll sit in the other room tonight though as I can't bear to watch her manouvering round the tank backwards! BTW, I...

    Help!

Yeah we had heater and thermometers in the buckets and then floated the fish in bags for about half an hour to adjust them. We saved as much water as possible from the old tank (about 2 buckets and a few saucepans worth in the end) but the rest was new and de-clorinated with the old filter...

    Help!

We checked the water stats last night. I'll post the results in a couple of mins as I haven't got the figures here but everything seemed a-ok. The tank is 110ltrs and we have 2 paradise fish, 3 red robin gouramis, 1 sucking loach, 4 danios and 2 shrimp. She was under stress over the weekend...

    Help!

Hi, We have a female paradise fish and noticed yesterday that she was swimming backwards quite a lot. We weren't too worried as Paradise fish tend to hover and swim backwards every now and then but I've got back from work and noticed that that is all she can do now!. She is even backing into...

    Recommended Fish

Normal zebras are very easy to find, where do you live?. I've never seen red ones though?. I see gold ones quite alot and albino and they're very nice too. What type of algae sucker do you have?.

    Recommended Fish

Zebra Danios are nice beginners fish, quite hardy and are lively and entertaining to watch. May not be the prettiest fish in the world but they definietly have a lot of charm and are a good addition to start with. Ours always keep us amused.

    Paradise Fish

They are really cute when they're still small at the pet shop. Yes the colours are a good sign but look at the tails as well. The male has a lot longer tail which is still quite distinctive when they're tiny. They are really lovely fish, although can be very jumpy, our female has a habit of...
