Banks Of The Rio De La Palma

Awesome tank as always, I'd go with shrimp and a colourful shoal so I vote the Embers too :good: Could always set up another tank for Dwarf Cichlids ;)

What about getting a pot of Staurogyne and keeping it trimmed nice and low to go infront of the Tropica?

    Quick Plant Question

Pretty sure the middle one is non aquatic  I'd remove it and put it on your windowsill instead or it will rot and polute your tank. Infact all the ones you've listed are non-aquatic I think? Right one may be an amazon sword? Hope that helps, try to get a better pic of the left one...

    Quick Plant Question

Remove them from the pot, carefully remove the wool the roots are in and then plant it into your substrate. What plants is it, do you know? If not chuck up a Picture for I.D's :good:

    2Ft Shrimp Tank

Added 20 more shrimp today but they are sub-adults. Can't tell quality due to their size but they were only a few quid for the lot so I don't mind much, I just enjoy watching them more than anything :shifty: Also I spotted a few shrimplets of my own swimming around today so looks like atleast...

    First Attempt Planted Tank

I have some Parva in my main tank and it is indeed slow growing, for me atleast. Wendtii is a nice plant, I've got 4 different types of Wendtii and I found that my Tropica strain grows "lower" and bushier than the Wendtii Green/Brown. Again thats just in my experience. Would you consider a...

    First Attempt Planted Tank

Looking great, nice piece of wood too! Maybe add a few small dark coloured rocks around the base of the wood? Something like Landscaping stone you see on The Green Machine, will keep your carpet from going too far into your wood. Could even cover them with some nice moss or Riccia? I'd have...

    Crs Egss Disappeared?

Confirmed sighting of a shrimplet!!! Saw him/her whizzing around in the moss, tiny tiny little things, couldn't even take a photo because it's so small and still see-through. :hyper:

    Crs Egss Disappeared?

I noticed the eggs around 3 weeks ago and they only "vanished" near the end of last week, they went really pale then were gone lol. I have a small internal that I covered the intake with tights so shrimplets don't get sucked in. The 2 females have been in the moss and not moved for about 3...

    2Ft Shrimp Tank

Hmm I also had a little in my Betta tank with no dosing and it still didn't grow, think it just hates me lol Ah really? I hope they don't do that with mine, wanna get cracking and build a hood etc  Thanks for the kind words! :good:

    2Ft Shrimp Tank

I usually get a couple of leaves wither away but nothing major and some pruning can't keep in line. Thats the thing that stumped me about Vallis, we have hard water in my area and it still dies lol. I planted around 30-40 plants worth in my other 125L along with root tabs and Liquid CO2/EI...

    2Ft Shrimp Tank

Thanks very much, couldn't of done it without you :good: My Crypt wendtii Tropica has started to melt a little, few holey leaves which I will trim off at some point. Hoping the new ones don't throw too much of a fit either lol. Also hoping my Sag doesn't die off like the Vallis has 4 times...

    2Ft Shrimp Tank

Ok so recieved some plants from Tanksalot (massive thanks!) and got them in earlier today and the shrimp are loving the extra cover... all 3 of them! The basic idea is as the plan above shows, Crypts around the stones and wood, narrow leaf java fern at the back of the tank, Sag over the...

    2Ft Shrimp Tank

Lol, I stretched some tights over the intake on my internal so I shouldn't have to fish them out of that. Definitely need more shrimp and possibly some snails in there, looks a bit silly with 3 little Cherry Shrimp in a 2 foot tank haha

    2Ft Shrimp Tank

Thats understandable, I'll see what funds I have when your next lot are up. Think mine are having their shrimplets now, usually they are out in the open eating but they have both buried themselves into the moss on the rocks and haven't came out all day. Fingers crossed eh

    2Ft Shrimp Tank

Hmm may give them a miss then and just buy it from AE just to be safe. Would you be prepared to swap a few shrimp with me once my females have given birth and they grow a bit? They aren't massively deep red though which may be a concern? Just want to introduce a new bloodline to my small...

    2Ft Shrimp Tank

Yeah I just finished off my 500ml bottle of it and my plants have been so much better since switching to it. Any experience with Plants Alive? Found some Staurogyne on there for around £3 but don't know what sort of sizes the "portions" are, are they sold in pots over on there too?

    2Ft Shrimp Tank

Nice one! I'll have a look on AE, need to order some more Liquid CO2 anyway. Cheers

    2Ft Shrimp Tank

I don't mind waiting for it to grow in, I'll have to try finding some Staurogyne. None of my LFS's seem to have any, got around 3 more to check though. Would be excellent if you could spare a few plantlets, be much appreciated :good:

    2Ft Shrimp Tank

Yeah that's the plan just poor Paint skills lol. Gonna break up some rocks and put some more in and around the wood, will tie some of my small Java fern plantlets on and try to find some Narrow leaf stuff to put around the wood too. Any ideas how much Staurogyne I'll need? Cheers

    2Ft Shrimp Tank

That's where I'm hoping the Java Ferns will come into play, I was also toying with the idea of a select few stems. Something like Hygro Polysperma or similar?

    2Ft Shrimp Tank

Hey guys, recently aquired a 2FT tank for the bargain price of £10 so thought I'd transfer over my 3 lone Cherry shrimp to start a breeding colony. My 2 females are heavily berried and should be dropping shrimplets any time now! Here's what I have so far scape wise: Basically just Xmas...

Is It Normal For Echinodoras And Vallis To Melt/die Soon After Being I

Is It Normal For Echinodoras And Vallis To Melt/die Soon After Being I

Is It Normal For Echinodoras And Vallis To Melt/die Soon After Being I

I had around 4 or 5 on each plant die off over a period of a few days, trimmed them back and its been around 3 weeks to a month since I trimmed it last and I don't have a brown leaf in sight and the plants doubled in size

Is It Normal For Echinodoras And Vallis To Melt/die Soon After Being I

A few of my Echinodoras leaves did die off but keeping it trimmed has made the 3 plants I got grow really well. They're huge and bright green now so should be fine if you just nip off and remove the dead rotting leaves. Also Vallis does sometimes have a little melt but I have never been able to...

Recommend Me Some Fast Growing Plants!

Should still be fine, mine were up until dosing they just grow a little slower that's all. They will "melt" or die off when first introduced but it's perfectly normal and after they will grow back nice and strong then there's no stopping them lol :good:

    Which Substrate?

I bought some TPN+ ones from The Green Machine I think, cost me around £6 and you get 12 if I remember correctly. Place 1 around each group of plants, I try getting them in the middle, and again I THINK they last around 6 months? Very cost effective! I'll check the packaging for a definite...

Recommend Me Some Fast Growing Plants!

I've got the Wendtii green and browns, Parva and Wendtii "green gecko" and they are flourishing in my low tech tank. Just using liquid carbon and Green High Fertilizer from eBay. Although its not necessary its really cheap and does help a huge amount!

Recommend Me Some Fast Growing Plants!

I find Ludwigia repens, heteranthera zosterifolia, water sprite, java ferns, crypt wendtii, cabomba, elodea densa and hygrophila difformis all grow pretty fast for me. Im sure theres loads more around but thats what I've grown with really fast results. Hope this helps

    Crs Egss Disappeared?

Hmm so I could have babies afterall, forgot to put tights on my filter so will pull that out later, check it for shrimplets and cover the intake I think. Guess its just a case of waiting for them to start appearing then lol Thanks

    Which Substrate?

I use sand in my planted tank and I've grown all sorts of stuff in it, what might help is adding a few root tabs at the base of the plants? I found that give my root feeders a good old kick up the butt and they are lush and green 4 months down the line. Might be a cheaper option than a whole...
