Be wary who you buy from

One of the L152 occasionally try as it’s slowely moving around as it thinks they are a surface. Discus just moves slightly and the L152 just goes to some wood or the glass. As long as they are well fed their shouldn’t be an issue. Occasionally you do get an aggressive Pleco. In that case get rid...

Be wary who you buy from

The L152 The L152 is 6 inches roughly(I took a close up of it) The L95 is definitely topping 12 inches. I’ll probably be selling the L152’s at some point for another L95. The colours are great and they are active.

Be wary who you buy from

As title says be wary about plecos that look similar and go to recognised people in the trade. Unfortunately my 2 L95 turned out to be L152. I had a small feeling but the bloke said it’s the lighting conditions to do with colour. I just ordered another L95 one through sims tropical and I got a...

Discus are an endless money pit!

Agreed on the UV I have a good UV system just above the sump. I would have got this for any fish though. I guess you can only give it a go and see how well you do. I never knew the life expectancies were so low with home aquarists. Mine are around 1-3 years old when bought from the breeder ( I...

Discus are an endless money pit!

I’d be cautious about adding a black background, black slate etc if your keeping pigeon strains unless you don’t mind a bit of peppering. I would definitely agree that discus cost more than the average tropical fish, I’d say mainly due to diet. I worked out the cost of discus food I have 11 and...

    L095 Pleco

Yeah I’ve scanned the links some time ago. I spoke with the guy I got the L95 from, very knowledgable thank god. Noted temps, food etc. These only ever seem to be available when they are imported, hence the higher price tag. The only thing the fish keeper got wrong was the size. It’s just under...

    L095 Pleco

Always liked the look of it. There are tons more colourful etc I guess it’s a mixture of reasons. A love the way they swim upside down accompanied by the orange colourings and armoured look.

    L095 Pleco

I’m about to pick one of these fine specimens up. Anyone have an experience with these Plecos ? It’s only five inches at the moment so quite young. I hear mixed information so will be keen to see what there conditions are where they have been staying. Just keen to see if anyone else has any...

THIS is how you keep Discus happy, healthy, and for years.

There’s a lot of variables at play and to keep plants, discus as well as community fish in the same tank you have to have your wits about you. An effective routine is essential. Have medication on hand and perhaps a worming schedule ( some people frown on it but I adopt it and it’s stopped the...

THIS is how you keep Discus happy, healthy, and for years.

If you want to grow them to their genetic potential definitely bare bottom tank a rigorous cleaning and feeding schedule. They grow fine in community tanks though and can get just as meaty if you have a good water changing schedule . UV is a hidden gem but there is always arguments as the flow...

nice mixture of fish. I have 11 discus. The biggest is over 7 inches. Most are around 6 inch with 3 of them probably around 4-5 ish. There is one runt that just won’t grow but like you get small people you sometimes get small fish. I have 4 green dragon long fin Plecs, 3 L333 king tiger Plecs...

I’d love to tell you the brand and head unit but I haven’t a clue. The company I bought the tank from have no idea and just gave me the ‘we’ll ask the factory and get back to you’. They never got back lol. Powerful led tubes either way. I keep them on 30% brightness as 100% causes major algae.

Anything to be concerned about ?

Whatever it was is now gone. Weird but you fish owners know what it’s like when you see a slight change in behaviour or look of the fish. Panic stations 😂

Just seen this thing on my biggest discus. The other ten are fine. It’s eating like a beast, no change in behaviour. Looks like a skin tag. Weird.

    Aquarium Freshwater Test Kits

    Aquarium Freshwater Test Kits

Just a quick one. I’ve used API freshwater master test kit for awhile. I’ve questioned the results on many occasions. I’ve just switched over to NTLABS and the results are different. What one would you say is more accurate and reputable in regards to testing water parameters. NTLABS - NITRATE...

    Angel Fish

Yeah it was an experience. The female angel parent would kill anything introduced to tank. Once a breeding pair is established be prepared for anything much smaller to have chunks missing out of them.

A beasty 7inch blue Diamond. Lovely fish and great contrast given the other strains in the tank. Thought I’d share an image. Hopefully it will settle in well with the current pecking order.

    Finally

hard to get decent pictures of these things and most smaller Plecs. Especially if you have a lot of hiding places. Some of the tanks you guys have are impressive. Scaped well with plants. One day I hope to kick start some growth in mine. Struggling with swords at the moment. Submersed amazon swords in Discus Tank

    Weird film on glass

I see a lot of tannins. I get a small biofilm over the glass occasionally. Probably just because of the proteins in the food I feed the fish with. I find more water changes less biofilm on glass. Also less tannins in the water. Try more WC. Nearly always the answer regarding algae, bio films...

What is the most you have invested in a single setup

Ah, I see. A subject addressed awhile ago like most forums. Resurrecting old threads used to be frowned up in the world of forum etiquette years ago. Lovely Strains. Settling in well with the others. Two eating on day one. The larger of the 3 observing the food but yet to take a bit. To be expected. I had one discus that didn’t eat for 3 weeks once ! Funny things.
