2.5K for a 30 gallon salt water reef aquarium, The smaller ones DON'T save money.. I have a protein skimmer but barely an area big enough in the sump to put it in, Needs a small heater in the sump area and needs enough fans to blow currents the right way to keep the various corals happy. And a top of the line lighting system for each corals for each corals preference. . To add a refugium would take building out to about the size of a 10 gallon tank - and would probably be overkill on the fitration anyway, And don't even mention the RO/DI water system I'm setting up to make a, salt mixture and all the different types of test solutions - and i haven't bought my first fish or Cora!!!.
My next highest is $1800 for a 90 gallon acrylic that's 4 feet long(tank plus stand plus canister filter- it adds up fast. for my DoJoj which I must love dearly. Putting on a canister filter and cheap thermometor (they don't really need much heat and hopefully prevent them causing white cloudy water bloom (which I just finally managed to eliminate in their HOB filter. Freshwater fish are cheap, saltwater outrageously expensive. You can get a cheap coral frag for $14-30 but if you wan't something that makes a STATEMENT then be prepared to spend $300-$1800 for something that might die because it decides the current should go in the opposite way LOL. .
Cheapest systrem is a 29 gallon glass system ($25) with HOB filter some air movement and a number of decorations and plants (that they just kill or eat). - that one was about $250 until you add the $100 filter that I bought because the little ones broke all the time. It's the prettiest system of the bunch right now.
Oh and my hospital or betta tank: $20 for the tank and $20 for a lovely black purple and red Betta that promptly died (probably due to stress) after 6 months and was scared of his own shadow.
