    Hedgehog questions

A good fat based food such as suet should get results, as would peanuts. But worms are the best as that's the natural food. You need to be careful with the dogs getting too near as I've found that hedgehogs are generally covered in fleas. If so that could explain slow growth.

    A new Nano tank

First flooding just done. The tank has had intense lighting above it for 15 hours a day with a regular spray to dampen things down. Unfortunately a good amount of the moss couldn;t take it, nor could the anubias on the wood. I'll replace them over the next few days once the wood is properly...

    Carbon dioxide making kit

Only one way to find out. Grab a couple of bottles and give ity a go. You'll need some bicarbonate of soda, some acetic acid and put them in different bottles connected by the hoses and regulators. It's easy enough. There's also another option ...

    Hose question.

I am thinking of changing the 16mm hoses, both inlet and outlet on my external filters down to 12mm. The tanks are really not all that big and I would like to try and go smaller if possible or sensible. One of the ideas is that I can then get a reduced water flow from the inlet rose and the...

    Is global warming human created?

I sort of gave up reading the answers after the first dozen or so. I'm shaking my head so much that my neck aches. Global warming is perhaps part of a natural cycle but mankind is behind the speed that it's taking place. Just look at the difference covid made. No massive movement of road...

Water water everywhere, but not soft enough

And my rainwater supply doesn't have anything to do with Northumbrian Water Authority, but I still have to mix with tapwater. Wish to hell it would rain a bit more here.

Water water everywhere, but not soft enough

Our local water supply changed briefly for 3 or 4 weeks. It had been showing mid 400ppm hardness then went down to around 170. Great. Loved it. So today I checked again before another water change in a tnk, and it's back up to 436pp. Damn sick of it and I would love to be back with the soft...

Asda sand for the fish to play in

Just been down to Asda and I see that they have 15kg bags of toxic free childrens play sand. Got myself a bag for use later when I go light from dark in one of my tanks. Tips on using it alongside with growth promoting underlayer would be welcome

Sometimes scruffy is best for the fish. Totally accepted but beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

    Chilling out

I woke up this morning with a thumping bad head and it's still with me right now so I'm doing my usual chilling out thing now. Sitting in the tank room, watching the fish and listening to my all time favourite music. with my eyes closed Enjoy by watching from the link

    Finally, a fishroom!

Totally jealous but you can keep the bears, bobcats et al. My small spare bedroom with 5 tanks in it, and a 6th doing a dry grow cycle for plants, looks minute against yours. If you could get a Twitch livestream going so people can watch the activity in the room, I'll be watching for certain.

Any UK members that I could buy some Amazon sword from?

Snails are no problem to you. All you need to do when you get the plant is to do a dip in bleach water for 5 minutes. It won't harm the plant and will see off any snail eggs. I know this from experience. I'm sure others will testify for that too.

HOW MANY: Is there life out there?

I have a shelf of used artificial plants that were used in earlier tanks. I quite like the look of some of them too but I took them out an replaced them for real plants for a couple of reasons. First is that the fish can't jostle egg laying females into them and successfully breed. Or at least...

Not cheap? Compared to the cost of wood, rocks and plants in a true aquastore the price is unusually low. Hmmmm, I smell a new set up coming......

    Intestinal parasites

Yeah, I'd get the shrimp and snails out then go full tank treatment. I'd also really scream at the supplier shop as well. Can you have too many plants in an Aquarium

I suppose it's all down to the tank size, the number and types of fish really but I know from experience that letting plants just continue growing often creates clumps at the surface that look unsightly and more importantly also creates water dead spots with no flow and a consequent affect on...

HOW MANY: Is there life out there?

I just love that layout. I know Kamishi by various bits and bobs in some stores but I never knew he did full tank setups. I have a 120 ltr tank that I'm toying with a do-over so will keep it in mind.

How do we feel about this..

Having already set up another nano tank this week, I'm a bit disappointed I didn't find and understand Coral Moss previously. I did buy some as it was wrongly bagged as Java Moss so it got used but not in the way I would have used it had I known about it properly. It looks absolutely great on...

Finally cycled and ready to go.

My only snail problem was/is with Bladder snails. Pea Puffers made short shrift of them but they don't get very big, even though they breed like --- well----bladder snails. I've seen small tanks holding nothing but some of the more colourful snails and they seem to look OK. If you could breed...

HOW MANY: Is there life out there?

A couple of things. Participation is meant to be fun, but it's also taken seriously by many members, myself included. My own entry isn't a showcase for aquascape tanks, it's just that I'm so chuffed with what I managed to put together from a baseline of no scaping experience whatsoever. I could...

Saw a video about a plant that grows above the tank?

Lot's of them Amy. I have this one growing with dipped roots but it isn't big enough yet. This is the tank at my LFS that made me buy some. I have planted mine in small containers that are hung over the tank support into the water. ------------------------------------- HAVE YOU VOTED YET

accidentally dropped aquarium lightning into my fish tank

I did this 3 months ago. Problem was that a light I glued onto the inside lid of one tank came loose overnight and I didn't know until the next day. Most of the diodes (is that what they're called) were wrecked so Aliexpress, Here we come again. I have a Chihiros A361 on the way for another...

    Tips for my first aquarium!

Yeah it was Pet Mania. Not a lot of staff interaction there at all but my grandkids love the rabbits and things. Teesside Koi don't really offer much in the way of our sort of thing. To be honest, it's got to be Newton Aycliffe for me every time. -------------------------------- HAVE YOU VOTED YET
