Log for the raising of my angel fishes surprise children

I am interested. I never had luck raising the fry in a community tank. Your tank looks nice. Please let us know the progress and best of luck!

Good for you that you noticed the fry! Are the parents showing any interest? If not, you can easily raise them alone in another tank.

    Fluval 200 stuck on 77°

Your heater is undersized for the desired tank water temperature vs. ambient room temperature. You want to raise your tank's temperature nearly 10-degrees Fahrenheit. A 200-watt heater just can keep up with that much demand. Turning up the thermostat will not resolve the issue. I recommend...

Just need a bit of advice on my stand

Personally, I wouldn't place the tank there. Although it looks fantastic, I think the cabinet will be ruined over time from the weight and splashing water. This is true especially if the back of the cabinet is not finished which particleboard typically is not.

    Barb tank?

I keep Upside-Down Catfish (Synodontis nigriventris). They live a long-life if provided with proper conditions. Lots of plants, plenty of wood for them to hide and excellent water parameters. They are catfish who tend to forage at dusk and dawn.

Did the Fluval filter have sufficient water flow passing through? How large is your tank and what is the wattage of the heater?

    Help! Fish stuck!

Wow, no one can say you didn't try your best. It was most kind and compassionate of you to care for that fish. So, moving forward, are there lessons learned that can be shared with other forum members to help them avoid a similar situation? You mentioned the power cord. You might also...

    Help! Fish stuck!

Oh, most of us have had something like this happen over the years and it is heartbreaking. You might use a pair of reverse pliers. This is what I would do but it could break the filter. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C3BWOPC/?tag=ff0d01-20

Advice on new tank and filters

Just curious, what size and type of tank do you currently have? You have a generous budget. Many don't plan for all of the extra expenses after tank and stand so good for you! Here is a video I watched about the Fluval tank. Very interesting. Perhaps it will help. Please let us know if you...

    Red-tail catfish

How often are you feeding it? They don't need to eat twice a day. One feeding at dusk every few days is plenty. Try worms, meal worms, fresh meat (no fat) in addition to shrimp. Do you have a cave or some place for it to hide? Also, I can't tell from your picture, but you do have a one to...

How to help a fish recover from jumping out of the tank?

Just keep them as comfortable as possible. Corys do pop to the surface but jumping out is something mine never did. The only time I've had a situation like yours is a goldfish jumping out during an accidental ammonia spike. It too had red coloring more like red streaks. Please check your...

    Looking for best plant

Water Sprite. You mention your tank lid blocks light. Are you talking about light from your room or window or an overhead aquarium light?
  16. Archerfish

    is it normal?

Yes. Give the tank time to cycle. Your post indicates that you still have ammonia readings which should be zero. It takes time, be patient. How are you cycling your tank? Fish, fishless or 'massive seeding'? I use the term massive seeding because it works. Take an extra established filter...

    Seachem Safe to Prime conversion.

I contacted Seachem a few years ago asking your question. They advised just don't make a large batch to keep on hand because Safe does not have a long shelf life after it is mixed. The directions say use 1/4 tsp for 300-gallons.

    HOB Filter Questions

Welcome to the forum kanokoro! Doesn't the starter kit come with a filter? If so, you have what you need as a starter kit. If not, first look at the back of the tanks cover (looks like it has a full hood) and see if there are cut-out perforations. Most of the full covers have areas that can...

    Changing heater

I agree with GaryE. Non-adjustable heaters are easier/cheaper to produce and in my opinion, are a major compromise. It is sort of like having a home heater installed with a factory preset temperature. How large is your tank? And how much do you need to raise the water temperature above your...

Fluval A101 Air Pump = Garbage

Right, got it you are not a new aquarist. You never know the experience level of a poster. I have helped new aquarists when they place pumps well below or many feet away from a deep tank and hear loud noise. Another reason is finding they have so many accessories like pirate chests and sunken...

Fluval A101 Air Pump = Garbage

Sitting around meaning it was previously used or absolutely new? What are you pumping? A plugged/old airstone or partially blocked airline tube will provide enough back pressure to make the pump noisy.

    Fluval filter from injured tank

Whoa, two huge goldfish and a mixture of tropical fish in the same tank? How large is her tank? Yes, you can reuse the filter, but I would completely disinfect it before using again to avoid spreading infection. Disassemble the filter. Clean everything. Then do a Clorox/water soak followed...

Could I add two more neons?

You have wisely chosen your selection of fish. Can you add two more neons? Perhaps, but how long has the tank been established? What type of filtration do you have? How often & large are your partial water exchanges? Do you have a good growth of live plants? When did you add the fishes...

    Never cleaned canister filter

Yep! Oh yeah, sometimes I feel like Madusa when the gaskets see me. They turn to stone! You bet, that is the key to success! Eheim used to make a prefilter that I used for many years on my filters. They were simple and greatly extended the cleaning interval.

Hi there, Newbie here with daft questions.

Welcome to the forum! Your tanks sounds very nice. If it were me, I would wait a few months. I keep heavily planted tanks with a low bioload. But if you want to add more fish, neon tetras will be a good bet. Not sure about the compatibility of your Corys and the plec. One of the other...

stagnant / earth like water smell even after water changes ?

I agree with @GaryE, check your tap water. If that is not the source then open the bottle of Flourish and smell it. Does your water smell like the Flourish? How much are you using? If that is not the source then I would examine your substrate to see if you have any putrefying areas. I find...

    Guppies in Corner

Welcome to the forum! I absolutely agree with the above; it sounds like a water quality issue. Was the glow in the dark plant specifically made for aquariums? If not, it might have leached toxins. Just curious, are the guppies decedents over the 15-year period?

    Never cleaned canister filter

No, you aren't doing anything wrong. I used prefilters on my canisters and cleaned them at 6 months but only because any longer, the flow was slightly reduced. If your nitrates are fine and the filter pumps as it should, have at it. But at some point, though, you should break it down and...

    Strong Current?

I agree with the above responses. You have a really nice tank and I bet that betta is happier living with you than in an unheated, pet shop 'teacup' container. If starting another aquarium is not an option, I would find a way to provide a calm area at the surface, within your existing tank...

Wanted to show off my boys!

Welcome Hmarie37! Nice tank! Those are lucky fish. So good of you to rescue them from deplorable conditions. I never understood why some will get a tank and not take care of the fish. There looks to be one plant (perhaps a sword) that is begging to be freed from the pot prison! Again...

    Fish Stocking Ideas?

What a fun project! With that much space, you can indeed do a river basin with a main channel and 'pools' at various depths allowing different themes. I would pick species that are compatible with your local water. From there, rank order those species from most to least desirable. Also...
