    Cloudy Tank Please Help

If you are cycling the tank, it is a bacteria bloom. I don't know how to treat it, as I haven't had it happen in a while, but I do know it normally goes away on it's own.

    Snails Problems

When I first got the tank, I only used vinegar and a bit of baking soda. I made sure to rinse it completely. I use Seachem Prime, no other cleaners or chemicals. There are no plants, real or fake in the tank currently. Yes, the tank was completely cycled. A few days ago I tore down the tank. I...

    Snails Problems

Just redid the entire tank, and still no luck with the snails... and it’s happening with another tank. 20 long, added happy fish, but the snails are just struggling. I can’t figure it out.:/

How long should I wait before upgrading my tank size?

That’s great. Glad to hear you did research before buying!! :) so as long as the new tank is cycled ( I would just add the old media, or even the filter itself, it will go faster/ let you add fish much sooner), go ahead and move the fish to their new home.

How long should I wait before upgrading my tank size?

If the new tank is cycled, I can’t see why there would be a reason not to move them. Is the ten gallon cycled?

    Ready for fish?

Nothing but a terra cotta pot and a single amazon sword, it’s recovering from a goldfish attack. lol Substrate is just regular gravel. Temps are the same, so I went ahead and added them in. they do seem to be hovering at the top, so hopefully they do alright.

I haven’t done anything to cycle except add the old filter.

    Ready for fish?

I setup a new 20 Long yesterday, moving the filter from an established tank to the new one. Tested water this morning, results are as follows. ammonia:0 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate: 10-15 ppm I take it this means the tank is already cycled from the bacteria in the old filter? just want to know...

Should I keep the babies in the breeder net or let them loose in the tank?

Okay. In that case, I would personally let them loose, but it’s totally up to you. ;)

Should I keep the babies in the breeder net or let them loose in the tank?

I don’t think it really makes a huge difference, they’re good at finding food. As long as you make sure you’re feeding enough, they will be fine. It can be hard to keep the substrate clean when the snails are really small, so just keep that in mind.

    New Substrate

What is the best way to change the substrate in a tank? I started it when I was 12... needless to say, the gravel is rather unsightly. I squeezed out the filter media in the canister 2 weeks ago. How should I do it so that I don’t kill all the bacteria?

    Betta

Okay. Just wanted to make sure there was nothing special to do with a betta fish. Thanks everyone

    Betta

Well...I just found out someone I know has been removing the fish from the tank and draining 100% of the water with every water change. YIKES. The tank they had was leaking, so I guess they just got a new one. Is there anyone who can write out a little guide on how to get that tank started and...

    Seachem Flourish

Is Seachem Flourish safe for inverts? I’m looking for a basic fertilizer, growing dwarf Sag and jungle Val. Any other alternatives that are better? Thanks

Can anyone watch this and help me out somehow? I'm at a loss here...

Have you used a water conditioner? Chlorine/Chloramine can kill off bacteria before it can get established. How are you providing a source of ammonia?
  17. Aspen35

    Cycling new tank

I would use the tap water (just keep the hardness in mind when adding fish.) Definitely add the Prime, so the chlorine/chloramine doesn't kill off the bacteria before it gets started. make sure to have a test kit, so you can monitor the parameters. You won't have any way of knowing how fast it's...

    Platy Dying?

I was using the API kit. It’s definitely possible a dead snail was hiding somewhere. I didn’t give enough info for you to help in the first place! :D Thanks for the advice with the spike.

    Dwarf Sag

What are the requirements for keeping dwarf sag? Does it need fertilizer dosed into the water column, or do root tabs work fine? Thanks!!This is what it looks like right now, just got it after it was in the mail for 5 days.

    Platy Fry

Fair enough. It’s probably better to keep them in a heated tank, as not to put them through unneeded stress and a small space. Thanks for the advice.

    Platy Fry

So I’ve been keeping red ramshorn snails in these small little setups. These four are just some of the small ones. I’ve got two snails in the little ones, around 10 in the big ones. I use them as temporary “breeding” setups, and remove the adults once I see babies. My question is, would it be...

    Platy Dying?

Well. I woke up today to all the fishes looking perfectly normal. The platy shoes no sign that anything was wrong with him. I’m going to check the parameters again, and make sure that the cycle didn’t crash (maybe the reading was wrong, hard to know exactly.) that fish had been known to be...

    Platy Dying?

I haven’t tried feeding him, I suspected he was quite bloated, so that wouldn’t really help the problem. I’ve had him for somewhere around 4 months, I’m not sure exactly. Just put him in some epsom salt to see if it helps. I’m checking parameters now.

    Platy Dying?

Just noticed platy (male) isn’t acting right. All the other fish seem fine as of right now. Ideas on what’s wrong?
