How long should I wait before upgrading my tank size?

Hi! I'm new to owning fish I recently (about two weeks ago) got two glo tetras and a glo shark, also two snails. I have a 10 gallon set up for them but after doing some research I realized that they will get too big for the 10 gallon tank and that the tetras need a minimum of 5 of them to feel comfortable. So I got a 29 gallon tank for them, so I could get more and they all would have room to grow and I really want to do right by them.. Now here is my question, is it too soon for me to move them into a 29 gallon tank? I've only had them about two weeks.. would they be okay if after I properly cycled the new tank to move them in? Thanks!

If the new tank is cycled, I can’t see why there would be a reason not to move them. Is the ten gallon cycled?

Yes the 10 gallon is, I did alot of research on making sure that that tank was good before I bought fish! I just dont want to kill them or something if it was too soon to move them.

That’s great. Glad to hear you did research before buying!! :) so as long as the new tank is cycled ( I would just add the old media, or even the filter itself, it will go faster/ let you add fish much sooner), go ahead and move the fish to their new home.

I would upgrade as soon as possible. That gives a better home for the fish.

If the other tank is cycled, just move the old media over to the new tank, and you could have an instant cycle. (I have always waited 24 hours before adding fish after an instant cycle, but some say you can do it sooner)

I agree - move the fish and the filter over to the bigger tank. Monitor ammonia and nitrite for a few days afterwards to make sure they stay at zero. After a week of zeros, you should be able to increase the tetra numbers but again keep an eye on those levels after getting new fish. if either do show above zero, do a water change to get the level down.
