Is this ANY fish, or specific fish..? (I’ve got guppies and a Betta)

So this is either weird or normal...

There is always that awkward transition, between knowing “stuff” and being an adult. None of us were being sexually explicit. We are all responsible for our actions, but I don’t feel that mine should have to be moderated for the benefit of the minority…if it broke forum rules, was over the top...

So this is either weird or normal...

I was under the impression that regulations state that under 18s shouldn’t be on these forums. Some of our members, albeit they are minors, are very knowledgeable and very ‘well behaved’ so in my opinion having blanket rules isn’t very helpful. However, when on an anonymous forum, how are you...

I love if it my (all adult children) say something slightly ‘grown up’ and I join in 🤣. They go mu-uummm…😳🤮😂

Minors shouldn’t be on the forum - we’re all supposed to be grown ups here

    After the cycle?

I’ve never kept SAE but have seen them mentioned before on this forum, so I’ve had a quick Google. One site suggests they need a tank of at least 30 gallons, and Seriously Fish states a tank size of 150 x 45 cms as a base measurement. They grow up to 14-15 cms. Your tank is only 56 x 29 cms. I...

I can’t see the tank dimensions for the tank you are filling, I think it’s 16 gallons? What are the dimensions please?

Rare Fish's Rare Fish of the Day!

Sorry, so going back to the original fish that @I Like Rare Fish is saying is one size (and he is quoting his sources correctly), is the size you and @ClownLurch are quoting using the same ‘body length’ measurements? If so, why is there such a discrepancy between the information (even Seriously...

Rare Fish's Rare Fish of the Day!

It’s very confusing isn’t? So, is there a way of knowing whether websites are quoting body length or total length..?🤔🤷‍♀️

    Rebuilding an old abandoned 29g

You are so brave…along with whatever is in the tank I’d have the contents of my stomach…just the thought of what that might smell like and the gloopy texture and I could gag…🤢🤮🤢🤮🤢

    Decorations…

No, I think that as they will be ‘food safe’ they will be safe to go into the tank, just wondered if anyone had used them.

    Decorations…

I’ve been around the second hands shops this afternoon and have bought a teapot and 2 cups and saucers. I thought that I could put a plant (yet to be identified) in the top of the teapot and then Blue would have a resting place close to the surface. His new tank is due this week, so I’ll keep...

    Decorations…

It was something that I read about them liking a ‘cave’ or hiding space. I know they need decorations to be very smooth so thought that a teacup might be a good try. Thank you

Milk in first when you’re using a teapot, the tea has been ‘brewed’ with boiling water to the pref strength. Milk in after the removal of the teabag when making in a mug…that’s how I’ve always done it 🙂

I’m a woman and work on the basis, “of course it will fit” (note no measuring mentioned) and then rearrange the whole lounge to fit a coffee table in 😂

    Decorations…

I’ve always gone for a slightly haphazard jungle/natural look for my tanks (more newbie trial and error than planning) but I love the look of some of the more structured/themed tanks. I love @OliveFish05’s idea of the tea cup and saucer (I might steal that if that’s ok?) and I’ve looked on...

Rare Fish's Rare Fish of the Day!

I have no idea about these fish, I’ve got a Betta and some Guppies 🙂 (not in the same tank). I try and check out the information and counter information to try and gain a better understanding…I didn’t realise there were two fish measurements (body length and total length). Still not sure I’m...

Rare Fish's Rare Fish of the Day!

I’ve just put the full Latin name into Google and looked at several sites and the sizes quoted by @I Like Rare Fish are accurate, with one exception. Seriously Fish state the standard size as 70-80 mm (2.7-3.1 inches).

    Quick question on Anubias plant

I’m not a plant expert but I think that could do with being a little more “out” - keep an eye on how it’s doing.

    Quick question on Anubias plant

If you plant the rhizome it will rot, I think I’ve read on here they can float, I have mine super-glued to a large stone, and you can glue them to pieces of wood. Alternatively people tie them to rocks and wood.

It’s just not right…it’s all part of the ritual…fill the kettle and switch it on, get the mugs and teaspoon out, put the teabags in the mug (yes I do slack on that as tea get too strong for me in a pot and I only want one mug at a time), milk from the fridge, check the biscuit situation by which...

    Emergency, Please Help

It is, but if you have the confidence, a hard hit to the back of the head is far more instant than anything else. You need to know you are going to be able to do it hard enough to work first time though…🤮😢

    The Tea Lovers Thread

Absolutely not! 😂 you cannot use microwaved hot water to make tea… Likewise, lots of those machines that churn out teas and coffees in coffee shops don’t heat the water well enough for tea either.

    After the cycle?

I think that most of the ‘cleaning crew’ e.g. shrimps prefer an established tank rather than a newly cycled one?
  32. NannaLou

    After the cycle?

I’m not familiar with Prime, but a quick Google says it ‘detoxifies ammonia, nitrite and nitrate’. I’m not sure that you want to be ‘altering’ these readings if you are still cycling the tank..? If you have fallen into the trap of not knowing about cycling before adding fish, and therefore doing...

    After the cycle?

I add the water treatment to the bucket (the amount to match what is in the bucket). I also have two buckets, so I mix the new batch and let it stand while I remove the dirty water in the second bucket. (Probably works ok like this as it’s a small tank with 10 ltrs a week water change).

Lights and when they should be on…

@Byron, thank you for your detailed reply and the article, I certainly need to stick with the basics 😳😂. So, I think I’ll set the lights to come on about 2pm, soft natural light before then and the artificial light will get brighter during daylight, and let them dim down to off about 10 pm...

Lights and when they should be on…

So, I’ve bought a new light for the upstairs tank, it has an 8, 10 and 12 hour automatic cycle with about 15-20 minutes of ”dawn” and “dusk” as the lights get brighter or dimmer. I’m working at home and the tank is in my bedroom, under a window and next to my desk (I spend far, far too long...
