Hey guys! I have this large piece of driftwood that I found on the beach many years ago. Since it's so big, I soaked it in scalding hot water for a couple days, instead of boiling it. I put it in the 17 gallon with my livebearers, but decided that it didn't suit my tank set up, so I took it out...

Hey guys! Today, I called my LFS to see if they had any dwarf cichlids in, or any kribs. They said "no". After that, I ended up desperately calling all of the fish stores in the phone book that were a reasonable distance away. Finally, after all of them saying, "Sorry, they aren't in stock" or...

Thanks. It's under control now, at 7.3. I got a female krib today, and she is doing great! I will be getting a male in a couple weeks.

Awesome! Lucky you! My females never dropped that many fry! The most I got at once was like, 40 or something. The norm for me was around 5. lol Congrats!

Sorry, what is GBR? I am not at all good w/ abbreviations. lol Did they breed in that ph? Because I heard that krib and dwarf cichlid eggs won't hatch in ph over 7.2....? And where would I get peat? Haha! Thanks! As you can tell, I'm not the brightest bulb on the planet. ;)

Thanks, everyone. I took out the limestone rocks, now I have some DIY coconut caves in there. The ph has gone down a bit, it's now at 7.3. My goal is to get it to at least 7.2. I won't be getting the cichlids till Monday, probably, so that gives me some time yet. Thanks again. -f_f!

Haha! Niice! He is a lucky little goose! How large is your tank? Are they the only ones inside? And he probably does do his "thing", you may just not notice it. Oh yeah, and @ mr130gallon: I might be getting kribs soon! I'm excited! :good:

Hey guys! To make a long story short, I'm getting a couple dwarf cichlids this weekend for my 17 gallon, but they need a low ph, I realize. But, my ph in my tank is at 7.5! I want to get it to at least 7.2! Should I buy one of those products that makes the ph go down? I don't understand...

Haha! Thanks for all the comments! Yeah, the filter.... Well, I'm kind of used to it, so I don't even notice it now. The green leafy plant is java fern... it just kind of grew like crazy, and I left it like that. lol

Thank you very much. I have baby brine shrimp eggs, but I am not good at hatching them. lol I will try though, if it comes to it. I think you can also soak the foods in vitamins, but I'm not sure what kind of vitamins.... lol Anyhow, thanks for all the help so far! :good:

There are only 6, because I salvage them from the adult tank. lol :lol: Three in this pic. You have to look close, CLOSE! It also doesn't help that I use that disgusting messy food and haven't done a water change since yesterday! Yuck! Poor babies! :sick: Same goes for this pic... 2 or 3...

Well, I was thinking along the lines of dwarf cockatoo cichlids or kribs or something. Well, I guess I should rephrase that - they wouldn't NEED live/frozen food, but if I wanted to breed them, I would have to condition them with that. :crazy:

Hey guys! I really want to have a tank of just dwarf cichlids, but I have read on many sites that they will only eat live and frozen foods. That's a huge problem for me though, because I have a life-threatening allergy to bloodworms, and any other food really that's in the freezer and what not...

Thanks, yeah, I keep them at 78F. They seem to do fine. They must be at least a year or so old now, and they spawn all the time, I just have trouble saving the eggs. I have only managed to raise one fry to an adult.

..... I guess your right, but they seem perfectly happy in 24 inches long of tank. Would there be any kind of bottom feeder I could get, too? I love bottom feeders, but most get too large for a 16 gallon.... :sad: Thanks! :good:

Hey guys! In my 16 gallon, I only have 6 zebra danios, and to be honest, I'd like to get an interesting fish that will be compatible with them, and will be possible to breed. I was thinking about cherry barbs, but my heart really isn't into that. I know a 16 gallon is very large, so my options...

Also, ammonia is toxic to ALL fish - you make it sound like ammonia is only toxic to tropical fish. Ammonia is produced by all fish, not just goldfish, and it is harmful to all fish, not just tropical fish, no matter what the amount. Weekly water changes of 25% are better than 10% weekly. Oh...
