Simplest co2...a crazy idea...or just stupid?

I don't think you'd want to drink the resulting cocktail from a CO2 generator though ;) It produces ethanol, which is the part of drinking that produces the drunk :D But... remember this. Yeast can survive up to 14 or 15% alcohol content. After that, it dies, and CO2 production stops...

    thinking of getting an other

CO2...... that's a tricky subject. Before you do anything with CO2, you need to know what the KH of your tank water is. I have been one of the unlucky ones that had a PH crash due to insufficient buffering (low KH) and too much CO2. If your KH is under about 5dKH... CO2 can be a risky thing...

    If your stand is 26" wide, you can't fit a 20g long on there. The dimensions are.... 15g - 24" x 12" x 12" 20g high - 24"x 12" x 16" 25g - 24" x 12" x20" or, if you did have a stand that could accomidate a 30" tank without it hanging off the edges... 20g long - 30" x 12" x 12" 29g - 30" x...

    Bristleworms..... BE CAREFUL!!!

So last night I went reaching in my tank to move a rock around. One of my small frag rocks with some zoanthids had fallen down on the sand. I reached down to pick it up, and got a handful of bristleworm with it when I stuck my fingers into the sand. All I can say is..... OUCH!!!!!!!!! Those...

OK so I want a saltwater tank

Mandarins only eat "pods"..... copepods and amphipods. Both require a well established tank, and hopefully a refugium where they can hide and increase their numbers. I've never heard of Mandarins having to be kept in pairs though. All the fish stores around here have them by themselves in tanks.

    thinking of getting an other

*blink* :look: -_- :S WHAT? You can get a 20g tank to fit on that. That's a 20g high, not long. 20g high is 24".... 20g long is 30". For a planted tank, see if you can find a cheap power compact light in the range of 55-65w and around 6500-6700K color temperature. And for...

OK so I want a saltwater tank

$500 is about right for a skimmer...... to run a 500 gallon tank :P For a small tank, you're looking at somewhere around $100 for a skimmmer probably... including the pump to run it. It's cheaper than that if you use something like a Red Sea airlift skimmer. Equipment cost isn't the problem...

    brackish puffer in salt tank

Shrimp = goner Hermit crabs = probably goner Dixie, I don't know how much I'd trust this fish store owner in the future. Based on this and the anemone thing.... Carlos seems to be more interested in what he can sell you rather than what your tank can actually handle.

Parker, my 55g has a pair of clowns.... a royal gramma.... and a starfish (oh, and the gobies and shrimp) ;) I did have a 3 stripe damsel, but it has gone missing, and I fear the hermits had a feast on it overnight one night :( Still.... I never said that wouldn't be a cool tank, now did I? :D

Well, as I think I'm the unofficial spokesperson for the cuteness of Peppermint Shrimp, I finally had to get a pic of one of mine doing his thing. This is one of the two I just got Monday, and BOY is he eager to jump up on my hand and start cleaning. Unfortunately, the wife sucks at...

Tunicates are harmless filter feeders. Usually they grow in dimly lit places with high water flow, such as a canister filter... so you never see them. When I was moving rock from one aquarium to another, I found tons of tunicates and sponges on the underside of rocks or in little "caves" in...

    Just wonderin'...

Usually to get a tank from glasscages.com, you have to meet them at a tradeshow and pick it up. One of the local reef guys is ordering a 150 from them, and driving up to Raleigh in I think September to pick it up, when they're at the reptile show.

Wife wants yellow fish... help me out

Hahahahaha.... the Gramma :D I'd never say anything like that about my wife (and live to tell the story ;)) I do have to pick on the LFS owner about this one. I want to ask him if he ever fed that poor fish. Ever since I put her in Saturday, she has eaten like an absolute hog. My daily...

Wife wants yellow fish... help me out

Well the problem has been solved. We were in the store the other day and I showed her a Royal Gramma. She LOVED it. She could have yellow AND purple, all in one fish! ;) So Saturday I got the Gramma, and she's doing great. She's quite a greedy little pig, though :)

    Wild rabbit rescue :(

Okay.... while listening to Motley Crue's "Home Sweet Home", I took them out and let them out in our front flower garden. They hopped right away like nothing ever happened. Wild rabbit rescue :(

I hate to tell you, but the fish hobby is built upon catching wild animals and making them pets. That's beside the point though. Last night I went and got handfulls of grass clippings to put in there with these guys, piled up in the corner. This morning they had both moved over there and...

    Wild rabbit rescue :(

Today when I got home from work, I was mowing the grass and heard a *THUMP* sound. I saw something run out from under the mower, so I stopped. I apparently ran over two little brown rabbits :( One seemed to be okay, but scared to death, and the other was having some trouble moving.... but...

    growth on sand...is it bad?

What color is it? If it looks like red slime, it's probably Cyanobacteria. It forms in areas where there's not enough water flow.

    equipment setup for first tank

The return from your Fluval would also count, but not for much. The thing you're looking for is turbulence and general water movement. If I were you, I'd pick up a pair of Seio 820's and hang them in the back corners pointing toward the front center. What exactly are the dimensions of that...

    equipment setup for first tank

What's the flow rate on the powerheads? If you're gonna have to buy new powerheads, look at the Seio powerheads, or if you've got some money to burn, the Tunze Stream powerheads. Both are great because they have a wide area of water movement, not a linear stream. It's hard to explain without...

It's not actually in Stanley.... it's in Belmont. It's Advanced Aquatic Pets. If you're coming down I-85 from Raleigh, you'd take the Belmont Abbey Exit (exit 26), then take a Left at the top of the ramp, and a left at the 1st light. It's down that street in a little old run-down looking...
