New frags from today's raffle

So, as I was saying in the other thread, there's a Charlotte Reef Society starting up and they had a meeting today. They held a raffle for things that people donated, and I picked up a few nice little goodies. First was some Xenia that was propogated by way of a very big snail shell It's a different color than the other stuff I've had... more white to it... and the stalks aren't as long and skinny, nor are the polyps as skinny. Hopefully it'll open up tomorrow, as it's still clamped down, although pulsing a bit.

Next were Green Star Polyps. I've been wanting GSPs since I got my saltwater tank, and FINALLY THEY ARE MINE!!! OH YEAH!! Well, It's gonna take a while for them to show. I got two small rocks with them.... and they're just now starting to peek out. GSPs grow as a purple mat with little holes in it where the polyps stick out. One rock has about 8 holes on it... the other about 15. Again, hopefully it'll open up for me tomorrow so I can get some pics.

All in all, can't beat two corals for $5 raffle tickets Maybe one of these days I'll have something to donate to the raffle too.

WOW, sounds like a great idea! When i eventually get my SW up and going ill be loooking for a society too! But two corals for the $5 dollar raffleticket is a bargain!
SO how many ppl are there in the society?

Right now I think about 20-25.... could be more. They were talking about becoming associated with MASNA at today's meeting, which is the Marine Aquarium Societies of North America. Check out there site and see if there's a club local to you. (can't go back and look... assuming you're in the US )

Thanx for the link, but sadly im in Australia! There are a few societies i know of, but nothing spectacular like MASNA. I may have too start one myself! How often do you guys meet up?

Edit: yup! wrong hemisphere! I do know of one down here in my neck of the woods, so ill do a bit more web surfing and find out.

Too bad Charlotte's something like 5hrs away from here! ...and I think y'all are the closest reef society to Savannah I've looked before and even if there were one in Charleston or Jacksonville, FL, it would still be 2hrs!!

Anyway, glad you've got a good one and congrats on the raffle win!

Atlanta is probably the closest to you Parker. At today's meeting they mentioned the Atlanta club, and how next month the Atlanta group is supposed to be doing something big... including a few PhD guest speakers and such.

Still 4hrs away! Savannah's a wonderful town, but we're a long way from everything
