Bug Bites tropical formula is good. New Life Spectrum, Omega One, and Hikari are good brands too. I would get the pellets since that's better for the fish. You could also give them some frozen food like bloodworms, daphnia, or brineshrimp.

You say you have hard water? Can you give your exact parameters? Tetras and barbs are both softwater fish.

I would get some more live plants. You could put in some floating plants like salvinia or frogbit. You could also add a few nerite snails. They don't breed in freshwater, so they wouldn't overpopulate your tank.

Well, you have learned the most important rule in fish keeping. Never listen to the people at your lfs. It will always get you into trouble. All the fish you have, except for the betta, are not suitable for your tank. I would return all of them to the store, and just keep the betta on his own...

Don't mess with your ph. It will just cause problems for you. The hardness of your water is more important. 300ppm is too hard for your bettas. As the others have said, you can use RO water to bring down the hardness.
