I throw a pleco wafer in every few days to be on the safe side. Depends how clean your tank is algae-wise and how much excess fish food is available.

I feed freeze dried tubiflex also. The fish love it. Seems to be their favorite food judging by how they attack it. Mine doesn't sink either. I pre-soak but it is more of a neutral buoyancy. Floats wherever the current takes it but the fish gobble it up pretty fast.

No idea why. All I know is, it is all well now. Everyone is healthy and active only a brief chase every now and then that appears to be more related to mating behavior as it is usually a male chasing a female but no nipping and no bullying.

I had to read up on dwarf crayfish. That sounds like a nice option for your circumstances.

get a bigger net. It is easier to catch a fish in a big net than with a small one. If you catch other fish, you can take them out of the bigger net using the smaller net.

I just googled that filter. It looks like a nice filter but I bet you need to take it apart and clean it. You probably need to do that once a week or every other week. Those sponges are going to get clogged and then won't be filtering anything.

my 2 thoughts are you don't have enough filtration and you can certainly clean the glass without upsetting anything.

I would think it would depend on what kind of substrate you are using. Sand or soil would have very little flow through and would think very little bacteria processing ammonia. No idea though really.

For decades, I washed media with tap water and never gave it a second thought until I joined here. Never had any problems. I may go back to it after this thread.

I switch back and forth between Seachem and API depending on the purpose.
