    Byron Update

Thanks for the update. You've got this Byron, stay strong. Best thoughts and wishes from us, hope you are feeling better.

Weird cloudy layer in Guppy Tanks

Ye, it's really something. Well hopefully we figure this out, it's really interesting. A thermocline definitely has the potential to cause a hypoxic zone. Maybe OP can try testing the temp of the water, and giving us some info on the heater they're using.

    can it be done?

I see, thanks you guys! Also @AbbeysDad do you have any news about Byron?

    can it be done?

So you know how in marine tanks you can have like living food sources in the main tank (phytoplankton, copepods, etc.)? Is that possible with freshwater, meaning are there any organisms that can reproduce and still be a consistent source of food in a freshwater main tank with fish?

    30g Tank Stocking

Ye they need sand (corydoras), also some of your fish don't like the same water. Do you know your general hardness?

Weird cloudy layer in Guppy Tanks

Ye I agree. I did a lot of research on dead zones for an end of term paper and this isn't really how it goes. Like lumpfish said, they occur on a massive scale in the oceans due to fertilizer runoff causing a massive population explosion of bacteria and microorganisms that will feed on the...

    can it be done?

Hey all, Is it possible to have a closed system (figure of speech) from a food standpoint? For example, having a brine shrimp colony in the main brackish tank, but for freshwater. This would be pretty cool imo, and I can't see any problems. Thanks in advance.

Advice: Two filters in 50 gallon? Too much filtration?

I always like one central filter, but it's actually good you have 2 imo. Parrots and plecos are MESSY! If you have a filter on both ends you get a nice widespread waste control (you should still clean the substrate every so often). That being said you'll need a ton of plants and some wood for...

New tank plan -> feedback and advice appreciated!!

Quikrete is the sand :). Make sure to get the play sand, the other stuff can be spiky!

Betta with an eye-deformity. Should I buy?

It takes weeks for a fish to truly acclimate, it is better off to drip acclimate for an hour and then put it in.

    Advise Needed-Veiltail Betta

Alright :). Just a suggestion. It's basically a little ball of algae that are very common in betta tanks.

    Advise Needed-Veiltail Betta

I don't know if anyone has said this, but you could get a moss ball from the pet store. It can rest on that and it will help keep the water parameters more stable.

    55 Gallon Stocking Help

Do you know your water hardness?
  14. HoldenOn

Betta with an eye-deformity. Should I buy?

I don't know if shrimp can get it (I highly doubt it), but they are sensitive to medication, same as plants. You could try treating it, and at least it would have a proper home to pass in. It doesn't look good, but it could be worse.

Betta with an eye-deformity. Should I buy?

Seeing it in the video definitely looks like hith. Do you have a quarantine tank? It also looks like that water hasn't been changed in a while. If you can quarantine it I would get it still, if not I would pass.

Can you try uploading it to YouTube?

    Feeding brine shrimp

I should probably feed the corydoras their own thing then. Thanks so much :).

I´m a real home stayer now...

Hope you feel better :). Nothing better than watching fish while you're feeling down :)!
  19. HoldenOn

Betta with an eye-deformity. Should I buy?

Ah. I just misread. Anyways, I don't see any real problems arising from the eye as long as the fish is just with shrimp. I would advise strongly against any other tank mates for it though, as the damaged eye could slow feeding. Very pretty fish, I would buy it myself.

    Feeding brine shrimp

That's useful, I didn't think about soaking them or cutting them. Do the shrimp get down to the bottom?
  21. HoldenOn

    Feeding brine shrimp

    They are frozen.

Betta with an eye-deformity. Should I buy?

Ye I don't get the adoption thing if money isn't an issue. The breeder is selling the fish, if no one buys it, it will die in its breeder tank. If you buy it then its yours and you can do what you please with it. I'm confused as to why OP made this thread. If the fish is in a tank with shrimp...

    Guppy help please

Can't go to high with guppies. Just make sure to make any changes as gradual as possible because a large change can be fatal.
  24. HoldenOn

Betta with an eye-deformity. Should I buy?

Ye it'll be fine. The holes aren't a disease, it's just not the highest quality betta. Hole in the head is very distinct, and I doubt that the seller would post a pic of a betta with hith.

    Guppy help please

Hi! You have shimmies :/. Shimmying is a symptom rather than a single disease, and an indication that a fish no longer has proper control of its nerves and muscles. It occurs when fish are under severe stress, most often because of environmental problems.
  27. HoldenOn

Betta with an eye-deformity. Should I buy?

Get the fish if it's going to be in its own tank.

    Friends for Zebra Danios

In a 125 you could keep so many of either of both those species. You could get 50 corydoras and 30+ zebra danios.

    Rams question

Ye, rams can be a real pain. If you want to go the dwarf cichlid path, look into Kribensis. One of the coolest fish imo, and you could get a pair. There are also some amazing apistogramma variants. The best way to get a little background on a fish is find them on seriously fish...

    Feeding brine shrimp

Hey all, Got some brine shrimp from petsmart. They are the San Fransisco ones, if that means anything. Anyways, do I just break the square up and toss a piece in the tank? How much would you recommend for 10 black skirt tetras, and do I have to feed my corydoras with pellets, or will they get...
  33. HoldenOn

    Rams question

Well there are a variety of reasons. These fish need it toasty, like super toasty, 84°F ish. They are also prone to disease and are hyper aggressive amongst themselves. I would recommend a single bolivian ram in this situation :).
  34. HoldenOn

    Making fish up ?

Can't be done, different fish completely. It would be like breeding an oscar and jack dempsey.

    Advice to Remineralise RO/DI water?

Heard good things about the shrimp stuff. @seangee might be the one who used it.
  36. HoldenOn

    Making fish up ?

Can't breed bolivians and german blues.
  37. HoldenOn

    Bolivian Ram Question

Exactly. For more than 1 male you need a 10 foot long tank with large divisions and sight breaks. These are super territorial fish.
  38. HoldenOn

    Bolivian Ram Question

You need to re arrange the decor completely with all the rams out of the tank. You also need a HUGE tank for more than a pair of dwarf cichlids (male/female). How many do you have and what size tank is it?
  39. HoldenOn

saddled Bichir just ate another fish

That's not enough space for any of the fish you named. Actually some African Cichlids would be fine, but they cannot be kept with severums and oscars. For the fish you have you should really shoot for a 150+ gallon tank.

Journal of my juvenile blood parrot? Cinders and our bonding

They grow really fast. You should have a 55 if you are getting more than one :).
