    Filter Flow & Feeding Issues

I personally feed once a day just enough for all of the food to disappear in maybe 3-4 minutes. I know for sure that I am guilty of over feeding a bit lol but as long as my water quality is good, I'm happy. There are fish keepers who only feed every second day or even less than that so you're...

    Help Identifying This Creature

Haha, well glad you got rid of it. I wonder if there are eggs or really small ones in the tank still? Keep a close eye or maybe even treat the tank anyway, just to be safe.

    Possible Parasites? Advice Needed!

Just thought I'd post a little update on these guys. Their slime coats have nearly cleared up to normal now and they are maybe a bit more active. BUT now their fins are looking a little tatty *sigh* - one step forward, one step back! I've added a dose of melafix to the tank this afternoon, I...

Liquid Carbon Ferts (Seachem Excel Vs Easy-Life Easycarbo)

Oh I've still got them, just don't really count them in my stocking for some reason    Yeah there is obviously something there as I've seen plenty of posts on it as well but at the same time know people who keep them and dose liquid carbon :dunno:

    Help! New Filter

Why would you have to empty your tank to swap the intake/outflow? But I might be missing something lol    It's pretty straightforward really. Just take all of the media from your existing filter and put it in the new one. Remove the existing filter and pipes (just like you would to give the...

Stocking My 260L With Angels And Community

Bolivians are usually very peaceful, I think you got unlucky there. GBRs are much more sensitive and not guaranteed to be any more peaceful than a BR.   Is this a second tank or have you written off your flowerhorn because you can't buy medication for it? Sounds like an expensive project.

Stocking My 260L With Angels And Community

The rule with angels is that you can have one of these options: 1 angel a mated pair a group of over 6 (always keeping even numbers)   Your tank isn't big enough for six angels which is why folks above have suggested a pair.    Why do you want neons over cardinals? Cardinals are much hardier...

Used Mature Filter Media - Am I Done?

That's great CD! I think you'll feel a lot more confident in your cycle with doing it with ammonia . You'll now know for sure that you can fully stock your aquarium once it's done :)

Used Mature Filter Media - Am I Done?

I wonder if adding something like a prawn would be better, it may produce more ammonia. Are you sure you can't get any ammonia?
  16. Alm0stAwesome

Used Mature Filter Media - Am I Done?

You should have been testing you water this whole time so you could see the ammonia and nitrite spike. The problem with using fish food is you can't know how much ammonia those flakes have produced so don't know if it's enough to support new fish. I would keep adding food and test daily to see...

Filter Spat Out Lots Of Waste

This is normal and will likely always happen unless you've cleaned the pipes\filter as well. It would have just been sucked back into the filter on its own, no water changes needed :) A helpful trick is to hold a net over the spraybar to catch anything that spews out.

Used Mature Filter Media - Am I Done?

Have you been adding ammonia to feed the filter bacteria this whole time? If not you don't know if you are cycled unless you add 3ppm of ammonia and returns to 0 ammonia and 0 nitrate in less than 24 hours.    My guess is no, you are not cycled, since you say you haven't been testing the water.

    Harlequin Raspbora

As far as the angels go, they will be fine with harlequins. Harlequins are quite deep bodied and will be a bit too big for an angel's mouth. Because the harlequins will swim mid-water and the RTBS will be at the bottom of the tank that shouldn't be a problem either. But I wouldn't add any other...

    Newbie With Tank

Hi there, congrats on your new tank   I'm glad you decided to do some research before getting your fish! I'm hoping you plan to fishless cycle with ammonia? If so, this will take you 6-8 weeks which gives you lots of time to research fish and decor. After you've got some fish in mind that you...

    Nitrate Woes

Sand has nothing to do with your plants succeeding or not btw. You do not need gravel or specialised substrate to grow plants. I've always used sand and have no problem growing a wide range of plants.

Liquid Carbon Ferts (Seachem Excel Vs Easy-Life Easycarbo)

Check out TNC Carbon (The Nutrient Company), it's good value for money.    I've used Excel but my vallis suffered (vallis doesn't like liquid carbon at all) my theory was that Excel was more concentrated as it was fine when I switched to TNC however it could have been a total coincidence and my...

    New Fish Keeper Here

It's good that ammonia is zero but nitrite should be 0 as well. The larger tank will help your problems a lot but won't totally fix them as you're still in a "fish-in cycle" so do a large water change until you get nitrite down for below .25 at least. Keep checking the water every day until you...

The Angel Isles: Planted Community Tank

I figure I'll start a thread to chart the progress of this recently set up tank. This won't just be about plants but about my fish as well and I like to post lots of pictures   This first post will be fairly long as I'd like to go a little into the set up of the tank as well as how it is now...

Cloudy Water, Gunk On Filter Cartridge

Without a water test we won't know for sure the cause of your cloudy water. If it's a kind of white colour that could be a bacterial bloom which isn't anything to worry about in itself BUT they are usually caused by an ammonia spike which IS a problem. I would do a large water change (50%+) and...

My First Water Change With New Fish!

The benefit of pre warming the water is that you can do larger water changes. 25% is on the small side. I take the view that bigger is better when it comes to w/c so I prefer something closer to 50% for my own tanks. I actually empty/fill my tank with a hose attached to my kitchen tap and...

My Angel Fish Have Blue Tints ?

Yep it's pretty common for them to have blue on them. All 9 angels I've owned had blue on them and none were "blue" angels. Two were wild type and the rest have been marble/blushing/gold angels. That's a lovely fish you have there though!

    Ammonia Problems :(

Yeah you are massively overstocked, are all of those fish going into the bigger tank? Your problem is that you didn't cycle the filter at all. Unless you were adding ammonia after you put some sludge in and checked the levels along the way; then your filter isn't cycled and you are doing a fish...

    Ammonia Problems :(

What do you mean by cycling? I'm not brilliant at judging stocking levels but I'd say you are overstocked. Where are the fry and the kribs? In the other tank? I thought we had been talking about your krib tank this while time lol
