So I want to change my fluval 305 to a fluval fx6 (unless you think of better for same price or less)
But would it be as simple as pull my 305 out and attach the fx6?
They look like different nozzles so would it mean I have to empty my tank to swap the nozzles etc?

Why would you have to empty your tank to swap the intake/outflow? But I might be missing something lol

It's pretty straightforward really. Just take all of the media from your existing filter and put it in the new one. Remove the existing filter and pipes (just like you would to give the pipes, etc. a clean) and hook the new one up :)

The FX6, if like the Fx5s, will only come with sponges that surround each basket. Even after transferring every bit of media from your 305 over, you will still have bags of room in the baskets, get yourself at least 2l of Eheim Substrat Pro or Seachem Matrix.

Upgrading from a 305 to a FX6 is a big upgrade, not just in filtration capacity but also water turnover, even with media the bigger filter will still churn out ~2300lph.

It's for a 260L,
I want to heavily stock it with cichlids
And I meant emptying it because the fx6 runs it's pipes outside the tank, my 305 is connected inside through pre cut holes in the tank, I've got the caps for the holes so I'm guessing I'd have to empty my tank to put the caps on and remove the in/out pipes that will be left useless.. OR I could run both

Well you'll definitely have plenty of flow! Are you planning for malawis or something?

Yeah I've got 10 at the moment, between 1-2.5 inches (pretty sure ones a hap tho that worked its way in so may rehome)
I wanted to get 20, possibly 22

I would only buy an aquaclear ever again. Awesome quiet awesome. Took me a month to find whats the most quiet at the same price and turns out one of the best filtrations I've ever had. Tank cycled in a week with it.

Even in heavily stocked Malawi setups, you should be looking at ~15 cichlids in a 260l, with at least a 1:4 male:female ratio. There is the odd species exception, but those existing ones are only about half adult size.

Buying them from young they were hard to sex still unsure of what I've got haha
