Planted Tank And Angel Fish Update

Ah well it's commonly done but I don't know if that makes you feel any better lol.If you don't want babies I suppose you could see if your LFS would take him back?

    Cory With Growth Over Eye?

I've always been unsure about adding salt, I have aquarium salt but I see mention of epsom salts as well? I'd rather use aquarium salt as I already have it lol.   Do you have any guidance on salt dosage for these guys? They are in a 35L tank.   As always, thanks so much for your help.

Planted Tank And Angel Fish Update

You could keep a betta in that 5g but not with the guppy, I imagine they would nip each other.

    Cory With Growth Over Eye?

I know, it's so frustrating!   I added their last dose of myxazin  yesterday. What should my plan of action be now? Leave it 24 hours, water change, start another 5 day course? Or just do lots of water changes maybe 50% every 2 days or something? Apparently it helps to keep the bacteria count...

    Cory With Growth Over Eye?

I saw one eat two days ago but it was only because the bloodworm floated right under it's nose. No, breathing is irregular but not the same for all three. One may have slow breathing and the other may be fast. They had had bloodworm again tonight (I'm keen to encourage them, they don't usually...

    Cory With Growth Over Eye?

All looks the same today. The one with the cloudy eye/gill plate may look better but I'm not sure. He doesn't sit still long enough for me to get a good look lol   The three lethargic ones are just the same, I'm not hopeful for them. It's so strange because they don't really have any other...

1St Time Tank Owner, Would Appreciate Advice On A Few Things!

Personally, I'd not mess around with your pH. Just stick to fish that are highly adaptable or like a high pH. Unfortunately with a small 10G you're pretty limited to the male guppies and definitely don't add any females. If you are going to mix genders then you need a ratio of 3 females to 1...

Absolute Newbie With Gh And No3 Up The Clouds.

The really important thing is that you need to make sure that ammonia and nitrIte are both 0. Have you cleaned the filter at all? If you did, did you clean it in old tank water? Cleaning it in tap water will damage the bacteria that keep your tank clean.    Yes your nitrate is too high but...

    White Gunk In External Pipes

Yeah don't worry about it just yet. I cycled my first tank with an internal filter but I remember everything (ornaments/glass) got covered in a milky white residue. It all disappeared on it's own in time. It's pretty common to get funky stuff growing in your tank during cycling. If it's still...

Juvenile Angelfish Temporarily In A 5

Just play it safe. The reason I say this is that if you have an ammonia spike while you're gone, due to adding two more fish, you wont be able to do anything about it. 2 weeks isn't long I'm sure they won't mind :)

Hi, welcome to the forum. Your photo hasn't worked. Do you have a photobucket or flikr account? Any photo hosting site will do. Peacock Goby

lol @ monster plec..gimme a break. What are the dimensions of the tank please?    As long as you are good with tank maintenance and have adequate filtration the BN won't be a problem for you. However if this tank is a cube rather than long I would probably change my mind...I only say this...

    Cory With Growth Over Eye?

I've just noticed that the estimated arrival date of the JBL product is 22nd April - 12 March - I guess it's being shipped from abroad :/ Oh well, all of the other options were the same situation so it's not worse than ordering the Kanaplex or Furan-2 - we'll just have to live in hope! The three...

    Tips For Catching Danios

Another trick that worked for me was when I happened to have a piece of perspex that was the same width (front to back) as my tank. I used it to basically reduce the size of my tank by trapping the fish into the smaller area and sink the perspex down into the substrate so it stays put on it's...

    Sand Top Up

Tip, after washing the new sand put some in a cup, and slowly submerge it in the water right side up and let it fill with water. Then lower it to the bottom of the tank and tip it out where you need it. It just reduces the mess/cloudiness created by adding new sand.

Yes I think that's the problem. At first I thought it may be a buoyancy problem but after observing them I think it is weakness.

    Cory With Growth Over Eye?

Test results were thankfully spot on with no ammonia or nitrate visible.    The original sickly cory is gone now, died yesterday - I never got up the nerve to do it myself. I dunno why as I've had to do it before    The second cory which is the only other one who is very obviously ill externally...

    Cory With Growth Over Eye?

Thanks, WILDER. I'll order the JBL stuff and finish the Myxazin in the meantime.   I went ahead and added the second and last treatment of interpet internal bac treatment to my main tank, just to be safe (I remembered to double the dose this time) although everyone is looking fine in there.   Do...

    Cory With Growth Over Eye?

I think it was between the ESHA and the Interpet, but I'm honestly not 100% sure. There has definitely not been any flicking today/tonight. The QT tank is right next to me and I've been watching them all night.

Yes I'd had considered that today :/ I have some clove oil and if you're thinking the same I think I'll go that route.    No there's no redness at all. But now you said it I have seen flicking can't believe I didn't mention it  I think it was Monday that I saw at least one of them really...

    Cory With Growth Over Eye?

Crap! I forgot to double the dose...   I haven't added an airstone but that's no problem to do. I'll fire one in tonight.    I've got a couple of pictures from yesterday when I put the worst ones in the floating trap.    The 1st sick cory is lethargic and looking very bad indeed. The side of his...

    Cory With Growth Over Eye?

Just an update.    Since I last posted about this I finished the ESHA2000 treatment. There wasn't any improvement. I did a couple of large water changes over a couple of days and then added a dose of Interpet Internal Bacteria on Monday. Yesterday when I came home the original poorly cory was...

    Hmmmm ? Odd Question

When tanks are referred to as "mature" I think it's in relation to the biofilm in the actual tank on the glass/plants/decor. There will likely be at least small amounts of algae in a "mature" tank to help sustain otos.    Growing algae in a windowsill is a good option unless you're lucky enough...

From The African Rift Valley To The South American Amazon

Lovely choices :) I wish I could keep rummies sooo bad but my angels eat them. My angels grew up with espei rasboras which are nearly identical in shape/size and never give them a second glance but that wasn't the case with the rummynoses unfortunately. Fish are so annoying sometimes! My angels...

    Opinions On Cichlid Aquariums

If I understand correctly that theory is applied specifically  to malawi cichlids, not SA.

    Opinions On Cichlid Aquariums

You shouldn't be keeping African and South American cichlids together. They have completely different requirements. It seems that most of the fish you are interested in are South American, maybe you should rehome the malawi and focus on the SA cichlids.

    Python Gravel Vaccuum

You don't have to add dechlorinator before adding the new water in. In fact some fish-keepers feel that exposing the fish to the chlorine in your water for a short period may be beneficial in terms of fighting bacterial infections. Infection or not, exposure to come chlorine isn't going to harm...

    Fungus Killing Fish My Fish?

Danios would be fine in there as far as space goes as most varieties need a long tank for swimming space. I don't know a lot about danios but some of them are better in temperate rather than tropical tanks so be sure to do your research on which ones you get.

    Stocking Ideas? 125 Gallon Tank

You can easily fit 6 angels in this tank. I've got a 90g, mine is nearly the same dimensions as yours but mine is 48 x 18 x 24. You've got a great sized tank there you could keep just about anything that's not a "tank buster". There are several cichlids you can choose from. If you want cories...

    Fungus Killing Fish My Fish?

Well TTA you took the words right out of my mouth!   But just to reiterate what he said: Adding dechlorinated water to your tank first then dechlorinating after - will not harm your fish (as long as you aren't running the dechlorinated water through your filter) Fishless cycling prepares your...
