Hi everyone. I talked to a guy and he is a cool breeder, he said he would give me some angelfish for free (2). They are young + small..

Now I am leaving for vacation very soon and cant get a big tank yet. Would they be okay for 2 weeks time in a 5 gallon? I will do biweekly water changes.

When I come back I will house them in a 10g, and possibly later a 20 high.

Thanks,
TFnoob

Please dont do that, wait until after your holiday to get the angels and when you have a suitable tank for them, minimum of 2ft (Length) x 15" (Width) x 18" Height

A small tank is not forgiving (especially uncycled) enough to house them safely and humanely

The thing is I wont be able to get them after. They are really nice angels. I'm new to angels but I want to try them out..

Could I put them in a 7 gallon cycled tank? This might be better. I really do want to get these. I'm open to responses.

People may not agree with me, but I think you'd be okay for two weeks, as long as you put them in the 7 gallon. What else do you have in this tank?

6 guppies. They are less than an inch long. I could move them to the 5 until I come back to get a 10 or 20.

I'm sorry i will not recommend keeping them in either a 5gal or 7gal even for 2 weeks, especially when you are going on holidays. Rather large chance of coming home to dead angels.

I still say wait. If he is a really cool breeder of any sort of morals, he will be quite happy to wait rather than give any fish he bred to someone not equipped to house them as they should be housed. Also being a breeder means he will have more, take the time to get the tank they need and get it right. Rushing in tend to lead to nothing more than heartbreak

Just play it safe. The reason I say this is that if you have an ammonia spike while you're gone, due to adding two more fish, you wont be able to do anything about it. 2 weeks isn't long I'm sure they won't mind :)
