Yes, I also figure if something bad is going to come the fish will have it stewing in them already anyway.   Also for quarantine... I find often once I hit 5 weeks that is the week something happens... so I'd definitely lean more towards the 6 week mark.

For me, it has always seemed to have come down to the fish I bought and where they came from that caused the problem and not the bag water.  I go both ways with adding the bag water, sometimes I do, sometimes I don't... also depends on if I have fish already in the tank or not.

They can burrow in sand too, I had sand for awhile... they did burrow but not as often.

They do spend a lot of time looking like they are doing nothing, but give it a couple of months and your pests should be gone.  Assassins do burrow a lot and kill snails hidden between the gravel as well.

It seems so, he did seem to be more active previously, but he was also not fully grown then.  I've been rotating all sorts of things outside his tank and he still naps.  Shame they have to look dead when they nap  LOL  it is disturbing!

When I had them and left them to fend for themselves I usually had 2-3 that survived and didn't get eaten.

To be honest, I'd probably make the hard choice and cull this one.   If you don't like that... I think this one needs some serious fasting to see if that helps.  There might be a serious blockage.

Some chasing is normal.  As long as you aren't seeing nipped fins it is their way of communicating.  With a 23 litre tank it might also be their way of saying there isn't enough territory for them or hiding places.

Nelly hasn't come out of the water even a single time so far.   She excels in hiding and seems to find a place to hide in every other day.  LOL

I've only got the option of 3 LFS to deal with, two Maidenheads and Pets at Home.   I might try waiting until a free posting day and see if I can sell them on ebay for collection only.  I don't want to attempt posting them over the winter.

A couple months ago I took a bunch of assassin snails my LFS for a swap.  I gave them about 20 snails and it paid for nearly all of the fish I wanted at the time.  Anyhow.... I went back in there today to check their stock of amano shrimp as I am wanting to do another swap and bring in more...

To be honest, I'd not add more fish unless you are planning to get a bigger tank... since your females have been with your male chances are a month from now you will have lots of fry.

I wonder if it might have been a burn from the heater somehow... odd spot for it though.  Hopefully the fish turned out alright.

That is weird. I used to have a fish that would frequently get mouth fungus from stress and I would use Interpet fungus and fin rot and never had a problem with my water stats during treatment.

Is the favorite female the biggest and roundest?  If so, she is probably also the alpha female and now that the male is gone she is in charge.

My understanding has always been that there are several types of apple snails like above, that apple snails can also be labelled in LFS as "mystery snail".... but that "mystery snail" can also sometimes include other types of similar looking snails.

Nelly the nerite seems to be missing.  I bought Nelly 2 days ago (spiral horned snail).  She was on a munching sprint around the tank from the moment she got in there, all day yesterday... and today.... I can't find her at all.  I have even pulled out a flash light and looked all the tank over...

When I supplement my snails diet with purposeful feeding... they are not all together (I have lots of assassin snails) so it takes them a bit to notice the food. Oh wait... do you mean maybe feeding just the one honey that way so the other doesn't get any?  That might work!
