Hi can anyone tell me if this looks like the start of dropsy? My fry is three weeks and has looked like this for only three days... Other fry fine... He's swimming about happily and eating... Has NO protruding scales (unless he's too young to show that?) I have treated tank with eSHa2000 just in case... Photo added
The red area at front is same on all fry!

There are a number of things which cause fish to bloat like that, dropsy is one of them, internal worms is another, and plain old constipation another.

How much are you feeding and how often?

stop feeding for 3 days, if he gets slimmer then it isn't constipation or over feeding.

look at the poos of the fish. if it is not healthy brown, but white and stringy then there is an internal parasite.

then from there if there are no protruding scales (looking from the top of the tank is usually easier to see, but depending on the fish size will matter) then it'll show if there is dropsy or not, would quarantine the fish anyways, just in case, until all is figured out.

I fed twice a day while he was in the fry tank but now he's in the big tank I know he won't be getting as much. I will keep an eye on him and reduce feeding......as long as he's doing what all the other fish are doing I will try not to worry.

i do not know what is happening with it

If you having nothing to say, then please say nothing. It just detracts from the thread, and the information being given.

Further to my post...I haven't fed the fish today yet my poor little fry has still increased in size...I really am worried he's going to pop...can this happen?

It probably won't "explode" as such, but I currently have a cherry barb who has an internal parasite infection which has caused the scales arounf the belly area to split. I am suspecting internal parasites for your fish too. Is the fish's pooh the normal dark colour, or is it now white?

The poo is white...I have attached another couple of pictures for you to see..he's definitely got bigger...but still eating and acting normal...he's almost see through now, and his body looks like a clear blister?

To be honest, I'd probably make the hard choice and cull this one.

If you don't like that... I think this one needs some serious fasting to see if that helps.  There might be a serious blockage.

Yeah, white pooh would indicate internal parasites. Sterazin by Waterlife is what I'm using to treat my Cherry Barb, although I am using a half-dose because of my shrimp.

This is a link to their UK retailer locator webpage.

Note that I never found it at my local MA, although they are listed as a Waterlife stockist. I actually found it at a LFS not listed on the site.

It is so hard to describe this swelling he has...imagine a blister...where it's totally see through....that's what his belly looks like...totally see through...the picture here still does not really show it.

I decided that it was best to put him to sleep after he was beginning to float head down...I tried to save him...I Feel very sad. I used the clove oil. Well...I didn't...made my partner do it as I just couldn't :0( rip little fella.
