    Honey Gourami Injury

Little update.  Her "arm" is nearly all grown back... just a hint smaller than the other side.  The color is slightly opaque but I am guessing that will darken to match the other side in time.  :)

Ah!  That has saved the day!  I did have something under other checked... must have hit that by mistake as I've never taken note of that section before!   Thanks everyone!

    Assassin Coitus

You will probably notice tiny little white tags on things then not notice babies for AGES.... unless you are like me and scrutinize your substrate endlessly to find one through the glass!  LOL

    Name That Substrate....

Yes, it did look a lot like those ceramic pebbles.  I'm just not sure if they were ceramic or not.  The had a sort of appearance of being "soft"... if such a thing exists in appearance.       I can't quite tell from the picture if it is similar, but the bead like things were bigger.   The...

    Name That Substrate....

I'm quite annoyed with the substrate in my betta tank, it is too light and not working great with my plants.  I saw some substrate in a display tank at the LFS but... they don't sell it or know what it is!  Someone here will know, do I will describe it.  It was black and almost like little...

When I am on the main page and click "view new content", for the last week or so it has only given me the same 9 topics that I commented on at some point.... and not the usual list of recent posts that people have made.  If I look on the main page on the right side at "recent  topics" that is...

    Honey Gourami Injury

Oh good!  I was worried she'd live life disabled or something.  She has such a sweet personality, I can tell once she settles in fully she will be really lively.

    Honey Gourami Injury

I've been on holiday for a week.  Just over a week ago my female honey gourami died, so I waited until my holidays were over to get another female.  She looked fine in the bag but now that she is home I've realized that one of here... "arms" or "feelers" is mostly missing (there is about 1/4 of...

    Unknown Spot On Fin

Still don't know what it is, but it seems to have reduced, that must be good.

2 Year Old Betta Died Suddenly - After Water Change

Your betta would benefit from being moved to a cycled tank, you'd be able to do partial water changes once the tank is cycled and that would be less likely to risk shock.   Is it possible the salt wasn't fully dissolved and the betta found some in the water and ate it?

    Oxygen Emergency?

The tank is all back to normal now.   I will think about adding an air stone permanently.  My current pump is really basic and too loud, can't be enjoyable to the fish and isn't to me.  I'd need to look into something better.

    Unknown Spot On Fin

I know this is a partly useless photo, but it shows where the spot is even if the spot is blurry.  The spot, to my naked eye, looks more round and firm and like it is sitting on the fin.

    Unknown Spot On Fin

Far as I can tell it is still the same size.  It has been there close to a week.   I tried taking more photos and I can show the location but the spot itself isn't in focus so it doesn't really give any clues as to what it is.  Will keep trying to catch a picture but I highly doubt I will manage.
  17. PrairieSunflower

    Unknown Spot On Fin

I posted somewhere last week about my betta having a spot on his left fin.  Small white dot.  I am 100% sure it is not ich.  I thought it was fungus, but he has now been treated for fungus and the spot is unchanged.... so... now I am baffled as to what it could be.  It has not gotten any worse...

    Oxygen Emergency?

I'm thinking I'll just leave the air stone for a few days and then turn it off on a day when I will be around to make sure nothing happens.
  19. PrairieSunflower

    Oxygen Emergency?

It was quite significant, I'd think.  If you stuck your finger in and took it out you could feel the residue.... so I assume that is pretty bad.  It hasn't happened before.
  20. PrairieSunflower

    Oxygen Emergency?

Thanks.  It must be related to the oil slick.  But would it have still cut oxygen after the oil appeared gone?   Anyhow, I have left the air stone running over night and I think I will leave it on for now.  My betta and my shrimp are doing their normal activities and my snail has hidden as usual...

    Oxygen Emergency?

Not far as I know and certainly not this evening as I was home watching Netflix.  I was out in the afternoon and we had a thunder storm but no clocks were flashing so I assume the power was fine.
  22. PrairieSunflower

    Oxygen Emergency?

Never had one of these emergencies before in my few years of fish keeping.   Earlier today I posted about an oil slick in discussions.  But I resolved that and it is gone.  I guess maybe I must have had something on my hands yesterday and not realized it.  I usually don't use anything on my skin...

    Prairiesunflower's Betta: Firefly (Bought June 13, 2014)

I have been trying for some time to get a nice comparison photos... problem is... he is always excited when I try to take a picture and zips around so his fins are all close to him rather than spread out.  Anyhow...this is the best I could manage, I think it shows his tail mostly anyway.

    Oil Slick Removal?

I got frustrated and just did a 95% water change and then wiped to oil that stuck to the sides... I think that has got most of it now... will see later when it settles.

    Oil Slick Removal?

OH!  That's a good idea!  I will try that.  Thanks!

    Oil Slick Removal?

No idea where it came from... but there is a film/oil slick on the surface of my betta's tank.  It wasn't there yesterday and this morning it was.   I first tried the method of using a napkin to try and soak it up (don't have paper towels) and that did nothing useful.   I then tried using the...

Heat Wave Uk - Possible Heat Deaths?

My tanks are normally that temperature so no change in mine.   Other than ice packs, you could try uncovering the tanks, block sunlight, keep lights off, fan pointed across surface of the water, frequent partial water changes.

    Fungus Med (In Uk)

It isn't fin rot.  There is just one small spot of fungus in the middle of one of the fins.
  29. PrairieSunflower

    Fungus Med (In Uk)

Half strength sounds a good idea.  It is such a tiny spot of fungus I doubt it needs any more than that anyway.   I need to spend this summer scouting out a second hand tank for quarantine.  I didn't ever replace mine that cracked.

    Fungus Med (In Uk)

I'm pretty sure I was warned against it with shrimp in the tank... though I could be wrong... hopefully someone will say... as if it is safe... then much easier to use that one!  LOL
  31. PrairieSunflower

    Fungus Med (In Uk)

Is there a med for fungus (available in the uk) that is safe to use with shrimp in the tank?  My betta has a tiny tiny spot of fungus on his fin, it would be gone in no time with the Interpet Fungus and Fin Rot treatment I have but that is not so great for shrimp so I'm wondering if there is...

    Betta Gorged On Algae Wafer!

For the future you can make a little mesh food house thing and put the wafers in there so snails can get in and the betta can't.  I have one for my community tank to keep my honey gourami from eating too much.   I have a thread somewhere in my history with a picture of mine. Found it.    ...

    Prairiesunflower's Betta: Firefly (Bought June 13, 2014)

I wanted to post a picture of Firefly's tail next to the picture from the first day... but apparently he is way too busy for that sort of holding still.  But, Firefly did take a moment to pose with his shrimp to show how well they are getting along.

Honey Gouramis-Need Advice Before Buying Today!

I have only two (male and female) and I find my female has a lot more personality and is so much more reactive to me.  The male is rather focused on just a few things.  LOL   You can also get them in red and yellow, the females are still less colorful but they do have  a bit of color instead of...

    Tank Mate

All is going well so I am thinking to buy the shrimp new companions and they stay there permanently.  My light is a bit on the too bright side and the tank only takes one kind of bulb so the shrimp will keep things beautiful.
  39. PrairieSunflower

    Tank Mate

I'm starting to think my larger tank would probably look like a nightmare if I didn't have shrimp.   I am mightily impressed with what one shrimp has done to my betta's tank in less than 24 hours!!   In this time ONE full grown amano shrimp has cleared... seriously cleared!!  all the brown fuzzy...
