Little update.  Her "arm" is nearly all grown back... just a hint smaller than the other side.  The color is slightly opaque but I am guessing that will darken to match the other side in time.  :)

Your betta would benefit from being moved to a cycled tank, you'd be able to do partial water changes once the tank is cycled and that would be less likely to risk shock.   Is it possible the salt wasn't fully dissolved and the betta found some in the water and ate it?

The tank is all back to normal now.   I will think about adding an air stone permanently.  My current pump is really basic and too loud, can't be enjoyable to the fish and isn't to me.  I'd need to look into something better.

I know this is a partly useless photo, but it shows where the spot is even if the spot is blurry.  The spot, to my naked eye, looks more round and firm and like it is sitting on the fin.    

Far as I can tell it is still the same size.  It has been there close to a week.   I tried taking more photos and I can show the location but the spot itself isn't in focus so it doesn't really give any clues as to what it is.  Will keep trying to catch a picture but I highly doubt I will manage.

I posted somewhere last week about my betta having a spot on his left fin.  Small white dot.  I am 100% sure it is not ich.  I thought it was fungus, but he has now been treated for fungus and the spot is unchanged.... so... now I am baffled as to what it could be.  It has not gotten any worse...

It was quite significant, I'd think.  If you stuck your finger in and took it out you could feel the residue.... so I assume that is pretty bad.  It hasn't happened before.

Thanks.  It must be related to the oil slick.  But would it have still cut oxygen after the oil appeared gone?   Anyhow, I have left the air stone running over night and I think I will leave it on for now.  My betta and my shrimp are doing their normal activities and my snail has hidden as usual...

Not far as I know and certainly not this evening as I was home watching Netflix.  I was out in the afternoon and we had a thunder storm but no clocks were flashing so I assume the power was fine.

Never had one of these emergencies before in my few years of fish keeping.   Earlier today I posted about an oil slick in discussions.  But I resolved that and it is gone.  I guess maybe I must have had something on my hands yesterday and not realized it.  I usually don't use anything on my skin...

I have been trying for some time to get a nice comparison photos... problem is... he is always excited when I try to take a picture and zips around so his fins are all close to him rather than spread out.  Anyhow...this is the best I could manage, I think it shows his tail mostly anyway.  

I got frustrated and just did a 95% water change and then wiped to oil that stuck to the sides... I think that has got most of it now... will see later when it settles.

My tanks are normally that temperature so no change in mine.   Other than ice packs, you could try uncovering the tanks, block sunlight, keep lights off, fan pointed across surface of the water, frequent partial water changes.

It isn't fin rot.  There is just one small spot of fungus in the middle of one of the fins.

Half strength sounds a good idea.  It is such a tiny spot of fungus I doubt it needs any more than that anyway.   I need to spend this summer scouting out a second hand tank for quarantine.  I didn't ever replace mine that cracked.

I'm pretty sure I was warned against it with shrimp in the tank... though I could be wrong... hopefully someone will say... as if it is safe... then much easier to use that one!  LOL

Is there a med for fungus (available in the uk) that is safe to use with shrimp in the tank?  My betta has a tiny tiny spot of fungus on his fin, it would be gone in no time with the Interpet Fungus and Fin Rot treatment I have but that is not so great for shrimp so I'm wondering if there is...

Does that mean wild bettas can live together without fighting like the common ones do?

I wanted to post a picture of Firefly's tail next to the picture from the first day... but apparently he is way too busy for that sort of holding still.  But, Firefly did take a moment to pose with his shrimp to show how well they are getting along.

All is going well so I am thinking to buy the shrimp new companions and they stay there permanently.  My light is a bit on the too bright side and the tank only takes one kind of bulb so the shrimp will keep things beautiful.

I'm starting to think my larger tank would probably look like a nightmare if I didn't have shrimp.   I am mightily impressed with what one shrimp has done to my betta's tank in less than 24 hours!!   In this time ONE full grown amano shrimp has cleared... seriously cleared!!  all the brown fuzzy...
