That will be fine, the better the filtration the happier the malawi's will be, plus buffering the water will help. The socolofi shouldn't be too much of a problem to breed, try and get 1 to 3 males with 3 to 6 females, excellent water quality with regular water maintenance and they should breed...

The acei get quite large so id just stick with the 3 species in your first post. 3 to 6 of each species will be perfectly fine in a 55G tank. The syno's will be a good choice of BN(bristlenose plecs) are a popular choice for a malawi tank. :good: What's your plans as far as filtration goes?

Bicarb and the salts as i said before, the bicarb should top out at 8/8.2 then the lake salts stabilise the water. Have a word with colin mate, no one knows more than him im pretty sure, the mans a knowledgeable lad when it comes to malawi's/water chemistry.

The lake salts and bicarb will keep your water in top condition without a doubt.;)

The pseudo saulosi, labidochromis caeruleus and the red zebra will all be an issue due to slightly similar colouration with the females. Agree with eggo to a certain degree but the seachem lake salts do consist of minerals, additives that the fish do benefit from as it mimics the lakes waters, keeping everything thats required in your setup. I would be lost without the stuff for my wilds. All you really need is bicarb n the lake...
