Good food is NLS, You wouldn't have to feed them veggies if you didn't want to as the NLS has everything they need for a balanced diet. I still feed mine veggies though, mixes it up a little. Should see their colour's enhance a bit to :good:

What pellet's you feeding? Some cucumber, peas and spinach every now and then goes down well. For their main diet a good quality flake or pellet is fine.

The syno's do like to be in group's yeah but as you say three wont do any harm at all on the bio load and three will be a good start until you add a couple more in the future or pass them on that's entirely upto you. Yeah if you wanted to introduce the sprengerae i don't see a problem with...

Yeah you can cycle the tank with them in there but ive had false readings myself and read that other's have had the same. Then again i did have more than 5 plant's.

For me id go for 1 large group of the dither fish, so 12+ neon's maybe 4 platy's and then a pair of dwarf gouramis. You dont want to much going on in there but with the right amount i think it will look nice. :good:

Never kept them, only heard they prefer acid water. Although all the other syno's from lake tang and malawi etc.. All prefer the hard alkaline water so i don't know. Seem's strange the one species prefer acidic water.

I know malawi's can flick about a little, the black spots could be caused by excess spirulina in their diet. So it's not necessarily some kind of fluke, don't look like it to me :good:
